Has anyone paid to have their ASUs set up? I can't find anything online, so was it done well and where did you have it done?

When the people do it they always jack it up. Invest your time in doing it yourself and doing it right. Thats the best way. And at a board youll have no excuse why it was messed up.

I would agree with SSG Private RallyPoint Member recommendation, practice and repetition since it is a perishable skill.

I am not sure if this applies to all military bases but my nearby cleaner at FT Hamilton offer's ASU correction / sew related services.

Many have paid and there are a lot of alterations shops that do it as well. HOWEVER, I am flabbergasted as to why Soldiers do this. How are you supposed to learn how everything goes on the uniform properly? You are basically letting a civilian set up a military uniform. I don't know how many times in a board and Soldier could not tell me the proper way some of the items on the uniform where supposed to go. Your uniform is a walking billboard of your career and our Army. Be proud and take the time and attention to detail to get it right. When I ask Soldiers what is the proper name for the combat strips about 10% know the answer. Also, if they know the answer they can't explain why it’s called that - hint not combat strips. Again, be proud of your uniform and know every inch of it and the reason for things being that way. Plus what SGT Alexander Polson said is pretty much is my experience as well dealing with Soldiers who had it done.

Just to add on Spc Edwards. One great reason you should do this yourself beyond your personal appearence is; you are a future leader, there will be a time where you are a sponsor for the board and a night prior your soldier will ask for help setting up his uniform. Take pride in knowing. Knowledge is power. As an NCO you'll be expect to know. Dont take this the wrong way either I am nkt saying you dont. But this is something you should definately do yourself.

You'll appreciate it more if you do it yourself. Also if you do with book in hand you can be as OCD about it as you want which when it comes to ASUs isn't a bad thing. I only use other services for setting up mine when I need them cleaned and pressed. Other than that do it and when you get soldiers,not only will you know the regs you'll understand where everything goes and why.

I have never taken my ASU'S to have another person set it up for me and pay them. I have to much pride in myself and what that uniform means to me to just have another set it up. I know countless Soldiers, NCO'S pay to have it done and tell there soldier's where to go get it done. I don't sponsor a soldier if he or she can't tell me about there uniform and what ribbons or medals go where, I'm not sponsoring you at this time. That is all

Nope. I like to do mine myself. In fact, I was able to beat out someone who is on the USARC Honor Guard in a Dress Uniform competition.

Most sow shops will hook it up, for about 25-30$ but like most have said not worth it..

Take pride in your uniform. Grab some dudes that your going to the board with and a 30rack of Stones, and get to getting on your uniform man. While y'all are doing it quiz eachother or sound off with be creed, and make any private do push-ups if they walk past hour barracks room and Look at you!!!!

Please clarify the question as you maybe taking a lot of grief for nothing. Marlow-White out of Leavenworth, KS does uniforms and has three levels depending on quality and fabric. I went to them for gold bullion (SP?) shoulder boards when I promoted to major. People can notice when you spend a little more time and money on your uniform. Thin ribbons, several online to choose from and I think they look sharp. Looking for someone to place the items on your uniform, wrong answer. If you do not have the skills to put it on your uniform, how do you know when someone else does it wrong? How would you know if it was right or wrong when someone called you out.

It's always good to find someone in your area that does funeral detail. They have to keep their ACU's in good condition and they can most likely and reliably set you up with a professional that won't leave your uni chewed up.

So... ASUs... don't pay to have them set up. There's nothing "wrong" with doing so but it will bite you directly in the ass when you attend a board. If not now at your E5 board then tomorrow at your E6 or E7 boards. This is a skill you need to learn for yourself. If your ASUs are less than perfect they are at least the product of your hard work and your Board President will identify that and view your more favorably than he or she does SPC Smith who paid a Korean to put their kit together but cannot actually answer or cite references as to how or why it looks the way it does even though it's perfect. An Imperfect but personally assembled set of ASUs will win over a Korean assembled perfect set in the board every single time just because you can speak as to how and why you put it together.

JBLM right outside Madigan gate there's genies a former vet ad they do a good job with set-up and dry clean with ribbons on $38 but there is competition all down this road they all do alright

You do not need to pay to get your ASU set up. There are books as well as manuals that give you all the details on what goes where. Follow the instructions and set everything up according to the directions. Afterwards, double check everything to make sure that you did it correctly. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to do this.

I have been in units where the S1 reviewed the uniform prior to a DA photo to assist in presentation and ensure the correct awards were displayed IAW the ERB/ORB.
This is not to say that the S1 put the uniform together. An NCO will open 670-1 and get to work before dropping it off.
I know S1s are busy but I have a lot of bad experiences with them (you know, turning people away 5 min before lunch, losing DA31s, doing more than grammatical editing on NCOERs and all the other crimes more than a few S1's have been guilty of over the last 20 years of my career) and this sort of practice is in keeping with taking care of Soldiers and solidified my relationship with HR NCOs.

I have paid to have my ASU's done but not for a board but for a Dining Out. The reason I had to pay for it it was a last minute dinner date with the wife. Also as a young NCO you should be willing to take the time and put your uniform together
