We have
had some Soldiers chaptered for APFT failure, however had a soldier or two slip
through the cracks.

For example when I got to my current company my platoon had
a soldier that had not passed a APFT since AIT. This soldier repeatly failed,
but somehow the paperwork was brushed aside. When we came down on order to
deploy we conducted a APFT to fill the last few slots with the best qualified
soldiers. This soldier who did not pass still somehow ended up deploying with
us. During the deployment we worked with him to try get the soldier to pass,
however still could pass the run. Once we returned from the deployment we did a
company APFT and once again the soldier did not pass. Finally after jumping up
and down the commander’s desk enough times the soldiers was given 90 days to
pass the APFT or he would be chaptered. Well the day came and surprisingly the soldier
passed, the next day he was promoted to SPC and tried to reenlist. However his
ETS date had been adjusted to an earlier date. Once the soldier found out he
could not reenlist, he used the open door policy with the BN CSM trying to get
the code removed and allowed to reenlist. Myself along with my company commander we had
a meeting with both the BN Commander and CSM in which we all agreed that the
soldier had plenty of chance to pass and served his country but it was time to
move outside the military.

Of course the soldier was shocked and heartbroken, I
explained the reality of the situation of how he placed himself into and he
should of passed it in the first place. I
had to make sure the soldier understood it was not an attack on him as a person,
but that the regulation are clear and we as leaders must follow.

Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 24 at 2014 10:15 AM 2014-04-24T10:15:11-04:00 2014-04-24T10:15:11-04:00 PO2 Rocky Kleeger 109909

I have seen a lot of Sailors put out of the Navy for it. It doesn't seem to matter if that person is an excellent worker, leader, etc, or not. I've seen people who can't pass their BCA that can run circles around, so called, in shape people, but that doesn't seem to matter either.

Response by PO2 Rocky Kleeger made Apr 24 at 2014 11:33 AM 2014-04-24T11:33:43-04:00 2014-04-24T11:33:43-04:00 MSG Private RallyPoint Member 124505

When I was a First Sergeant for B Co, 1BSTB, 1ABCT, 4ID I separated 4 Soldiers for APFT failure. My chain of command, all the way to the BDE commander supported the CO and my decision. It was a tuff decision on a couple of the Soldiers, because they were good troops. They just could not pass their APFT, but there is only one standard and that is the Army Standard, which says Soldiers will not fail two consecutive APFT's or be recommended for separation.
