Yes I have and for some reason I was just mesmerized looking at it and thinking about the guys who raised that flag on Iwo. I also served with some guys who were on Iwo but they didn't mention it at all.

We also have a smaller Iwo Jima statue at Parris Island on the parade field.

Absolutely, Sgt Joe LaBranche! I have also attended the Evening Parade at 8th & I, which is one of the most spectacular ongoing military performances anywhere!

I have not been to the Iwo Jima Memorial in D.C., but I have been to Iwo Jima and walked up Mt. Suribachi and walked along the beach. It was a extraordinary and humbling experience especially as you walk along the beach and kick up ammunition.

Been to the original cast in Harlingen, Texas (home of the only high-school based on Marine Corps principles), and the original. If you are in Washington on a Tuesday night, go there for this ceremony.

Not only is this memorial amazing to see in person, it is a great place to watch the 4th of July fireworks. You can avoid the crowds of downtown DC and watch from Arlington while getting to also share it with the view of this memorial.

I was there before I joined and I went to it after I joined. The 2nd time I teared up. It's funny how much Parris Island can change a person.

Yes, unfortunately some rotten bastard put the finish to the Marine Corps Marathon there. The last 300 yards or so are all uphill and at a reasonably steep grade, up.
