Most of the time I could really care less and just face palm the stupidity of people. We all hear the hotshots in a bar shooting their mouths off about their glorious pursuits in the military. But when the impostor tries to gain something out of it than that's another story. I take issue with the fact that there are kind hearted people being duped by people claiming to be what they are not. There are a lot of legitimate veterans and service members that rely on outside help.

This guy that I will post not only duped people, but did it with no shame and even duped over an 11 year old boy who gave the guy a Service Dog that he had saved up for and bought from his parents business. The kid gives the guy a black German Shepard that is probably worth around a thousand dollars.

The gull of this "hero" decides to take it further to con a dog training company to train his new stolen dog. When I left the Army (retired) I took my uniform off never put it back on. I can wear it at military functions if I choose and if it still fit (wider around the waist now) Why do they all insist on uniforms. I see no need in wearing it. Don't get me wrong, Retirees, if that's your choice so be it. I prefer to just wear a suit or proper dress to veteran functions I attend. I haven't spoken of my military service in many years untill I joined Rally Point to give advice. A military man or woman with no badges regardless of branch or service that served honorable has the same respect to me as a SF tab, Ranger tab, Airborne, etc.... And what other other branches offer. I know the Trident, Dolphins and surface warfare for Navy since they hang aroung the VFW post and learning the Navy awards. Again SMH. I suppose it starts with just fantasy. They wake up in the morning they really believe they are a SEAL/Ranger/SF/Delta, an Astronaut, a Jet Fighter Ace. Then they start outwardly portraying the persona. Maybe at first its a jacket or ball cap with Ranger, SF or SEAL on it. Than the bumper stickers. At some point they decide to go buy a uniform. The prior service will sort of know how to put it together. The civilian not so much. Their fantasy gets bigger they won't just impersonate a SEAL they will make themselves a Master Chief or some other high ranking officer. Throw on ribbons and medals rivaling Audie Murphy. Than they claim that they were in some super secret squirrel unit that only the President himself and a few trusted advisers know about.

I know the SCOTUS that they said they should be allowed to unless they are attempting to defraud. Well, when is it not defrauding someone? Lets say the poser walks around in his uniform not trying to defrqaud. But he gets complemented, "god bless your service, etc..." Then he goes into a Starbucks, "sir for such a decorated veteran your coffee is on the house." Or he is at a restaurant, and the waiter says "your meal is courtesy of the gentlemen who sat behind you and just left."

What may seem to be harmless pretend and not your intent to overtly defraud. One may inadvertently doing it just because the public wants to show their gratitude for those who go in harms way. It is still fraud and needs to stop the perpetrators need to be prosecuted.
