let's try to finish it up here with a different question. How can we Improve the Employment section of RallyPoint?

Please privde your thoughts and ideas on how we can imporve the employment connection here on RallyPoint - I think that is a different question and may not get merged!

Would like feedback from Civilian Supporters, Recruiters and RP Members.

Occasionally ask members to update their job listing preferences and status (their choice between 30-90 days)
Offer an e-mail or updated news feed regarding new job opportunities related to one's followed tags/topics, job title, company, etc.
Encourage representatives to these companies to create threads regarding job listings or roles that need to be filled. If they're really serious about recruiting more Veterans, posting a thread a few times a year to build a relationship shouldn't be too much to ask.
More external resources -learn4good for teachers, freelancer for artists and techs.

Right off the bat, sir, I see a few issues with the search feature.
1. Minimum requirements are not easily determined or searched. If I want to find a job in San Diego, I'm not easily able to narrow down those jobs by education level. First I need to enter in a minimum distance (which stops oddly at 100mi, when I feel that the range should be further) before I can enter in the minimum education requirements. Certainly this page and the search features can be more functional and user-friendly.
2. There's no feature to separate companies by industry.
3. There appears to be few companies participating in the Rally Point jobs section opposed to Monster or other popular job search sites.

Make it affordable with a good ROI for the employer. I was astounded at the cost for RP. I would spend money on a well known, heavily used job seeker site and have the ROI I would expect. I understand RP needs to generate revenue, but you would make more profit with more employers participating than they few employers that are going to exhaust their search on RP by seeing only the same job seekers interested in those particular companies. Since I am a veteran, and I do not pay for RP services, I typically just post on the jobs page, or direct sourcing with possible candidates. So if RP is not recruiter/employer friendly many employers simply will go elsewhere to find candidates.

I would also improve the search functions on RP... it is very basic and not the most useful search process!

To be honest I was aware there was an Employment Topic group; but, like Cpl Joshua Pitts I did not know there was an Employment section of RallyPoint COL Mikel J. Burroughs.
Now that I more fully Awake after a late afternoon rest, I realize you must be referring to the careers section of RallyPoint. Right now that section consists of three categories Military Assignments, Civilian Jobs, and Education.
Civilian Jobs - right now there is a limited number of corporations which have positions listed on RallyPoint: Sears Holdings Corporation (5,617); UnitedHealth Group (3,269); Sutter Health (1,426)
Time Warner Cable (688); Schneider National (117)
Education consists of When you would like to start, Where you would like to attend and What kind of education are you seeking?
RallyPoint is still in the process of attracting corporations to advertise and post employment opportunities.
In order to improve the career employment opportunity section and capability of RallyPoint, I recommend the following:
1. Encourage and incentivize RallyPoint members to post sufficient detail on their profile to describe their skills, capabilities, and potential to benefit prospective corporations. If RallyPoint followed LinkedIn's lead here including allowing us to put areas we volunteer in that might be a good start.
2. Lure headhunting personnel services to the site after (1) is more fully fleshed out. Headhunting personnel services tend to work on a commission basis and are hiring for specific corporate interests.
3. Allow us to "follow" businesses, schools, and other organizations. LinkedIn would be a good model to emulate in this regard.

Make it free or more cost effective for recruiters. I got the quote and it was too high. I don't charge applicants (Veterans) looking for employment. I charge the employer a fee to assist them in filling the position.
I could help a lot more Vets if I could afford RP Recruiter.
I luv RP, don't get me wrong. I luv connecting with like minded people. Help me, help those that need my service.
Just my thoughts.

I am Cleared Sr. Talent Acquisition Business Partner for Northrop Grumman. I believe the employment section on Rally Point should be open like the what Recruiters had on LinkedIn before all the rules changed and they started blocking peoples job announcements etc. First off give recruiters the chance to post their positions and promote their job fairs. When I first joined Rally Point I could not post anything, My account was constantly being locked up. Because of the traffic I was causing. I think that if you allow companies to post their jobs in a open free section, It will grow very big and could be very successful I would try it out and see. Networking is the number one way I find talent for my open positions. Let the civilians openly network with talent on this site.

Rally Point might consider making it free or extremely reduced price for Veteran owned recruiting firms to post opening. I can think of a few right off the top: GunnyRet.com and jobscout.com both immediately come to mind and are owned by Marines.

Your resume should be seen by members so other members can help other members help members that do not know how to create resumes or cover letters. Not just hiring managers. I have not had one hiring manger ask me to look or tell that they looked at my posted resume yet. I thought it was there to help other veterans but I guess not. Maybe someday. I think a cover letter should be posted as well in the employment section too.
