MOBCop website. Change HRC profile to VOLUNTEER. Submit RFI thru the Chain to see what units are rolling out and in need of your MOS and rank. There is all kinds of ways. The real question, is whether or not the request is granted. The ways i have seen are:
1. Be in a unit that is notified you will deploy.
2. Talk to your 1SG and let him know your wishes. He will normally be in contact with the CSM who will know the needs of other units on the installation. If your MOS and grade are needed to backfill deploying units, at least he will know and can submit your name to the needing unit.
3. When you re-enlist you can ask to go to a deploying unit. But that would require more research on your part to know exactly which units are deploying. Because it happens all the time, even if you have pinpoint orders to a unit, you can still get diverted once you get to replacement at whichever installation you go to.
4. Talk to your branch they should be able to give you a heads up and help with number 3, they can also help you if its just a normal PCS.
5. Don't be in such a hurry to deploy. All money aint good money, and you never know if your coming back with your battle buddies. If the call comes be prepared to do what you said you were going to do when you said your oath.
6. You can also volunteer for a WIAS Tasker, these come down all the time through your chain of command. A lot of times these are individual deployments and you will be assigned to a unit that is already in theater. These are based on MOS and Pay grade. I saw them a lot as an 88M. Other logistical and admin slots here as well.
7. Update your profile, are you in the Army yet? Planning a cool vacation, big family reunion, or other life event worked well too. I also have advice for getting assignments too. The trick is to wait until you are about to retire, like a few months prior to your 19th year....Good Luck! It’s based upon your unit of assignment and if they are scheduled for a rotation tour of duty. Best way to get a deployment nowadays is to be in a SOF or rapid deployable infantry unit otherwise good luck getting anything.. I’m going on my 5th year and have been trying to chase a deployment the whole time, it’s not really in the individuals power to ask for a deployment.
