How does one retire in post-Covid era?

A coworker at work has ask me for advice. He is a twenty-plus year veteran, who started his retirement process in 2019, before the Covid. According to him, his retirement process stopped in 2020, due to not being allowed to come into the Reserve Center in person to finish up his retirement paperwork. He contacted the Reserve Center last year and this year, only to find out this contact has moved on and the current contact number he was given has not responded or possibly does not exist anymore. Any advice? According to my coworker, he should have been retired from the military in 2020.

At this point I would consider anything he previously set up a dead issue/non starter and start the process from scratch. Is he able to physically go to the Center now? If he can I would think the best idea would be to go there and sort out who the new key players are and get the ball rolling.

Not being "allowed" to come to the reserve center is not a reason for a packet not being processed. Sounds like someone dropped the ball. I processed multiple retirement packets throughout Coivd/2020. Yes, the SM has a few things to sign, but it can be done through email. The retirement request takes 9 months from the time the packet is submitted to be separated/transfered to retired reserve.
