How long can someone ride a temporary profile?

There is a guy in another unit inside my battalion, who has been on profile since I returned from my recent deployment. He seems to want to go in another direction (ie: a second opinion, or surgery to correct what PT can’t do). How long can he stay on a profile for his shoulder? For those who want to know, he can’t do a PT test cause of his shoulder?

The medical system and command will figure out what it is to do in the end and not the Soldier. SSG Manuel said it right. Since this guy is not in you direct line of site you should not be concerned anyway. I am sure the unit is aware. Thank you for your service.

Normally MEB is initiated when someone has been on temporary profile for a year, unless they are close to recovery.

I’ve seen people on profiles for years. I go to the doc with a legit problem and I get a Motrin.

Having had 3 shoulder injuries and 2 shoulder surgeries, they take a very long time to heal. They also cause pain in a variety of seemingly unrelated tasks. I cannot run, the constant motion of the arm back and forth irritates and can worsen the injury. The sit ups require the arm to be at 90 degrees to hold your hand behind your head, that can be too far a range of motion depending on injury. Too many push ups can cause shoulder injuries. PT is always going to be the Army's first choice, sometimes PAs don't want to recommend for surgery. I had to wait 18 months after my first shoulder injury to get it surgically corrected, which also made it 10 times worse for me.

As long as he can convince the DR to let him have a profile. Eventually the CO will pushed for a MEDB.

Army Policy states you can't be on a temporary profile for more than 365 consecutive days. I have a soldier now that is actively seeking a permanent profile. Once you hit day 365 on a temporary, the military starts to medically chapter you. No way around this. Take a look at the profile itself. It has a block that tells you how many days you've been on profile. It can be alternating profiles, and can be for the same issue, is all the same.

It's my understanding, and supported by our BDE medical readiness NCO at a briefing yesterday, that temp profiles are now written with expected recovery time included. When that profile is up, the Soldier can be expected to perform full duty and full APFT the next day. If the Soldier is still having problems, they need to get reevaluated by a doctor.

Usually about 3 months then should be moved to a permanent of the problem isn't resolved by other means
