How long does it normally take for your actual commission document to come in?

Not super urgent, I was just curious, how long does it normally take to receive your actual commission document? I commissioned back in July and have been reporting to drills since. It's not super important, but a family member asked me the other day if I had framed my commission, I realized I hadn't received it yet.

I never received a DD 1A for 2LT. Get with S1 and keep pushing if this is important to you.

Depending on if you are active of reserve, you may need to reach out to HRC directly. That's what I had to do when I was an AMEDD direct commission.

Are you looking for something fancy? Unless your state does something, I'm not aware of a particular certificate. I have my DA71 and memo orders-that's it.

I have what the LT is talking about (commissioned May 2015). I am USAR, and that might make a big different than NG. I recall getting it in the mail and thinking, what's this? oh, that's neat. I don't recall the time line, but it wasn't quick.

It's on par with a quality printed college diploma signed (presumed printed) with the Sec Army signature.

There is also a regulation we can get these every promotion, and you can mail in a request with your promotion orders. I did this, and guess what, my request came back via US Mail "return to sender". Oh well, just another regulation that's outdated and the address doesn't exist anymore.

The only reason I tried was my Grandfather has one for each of his WO ranks. He was discharged at his previous rank, and commissioned in his new rank with a fancy new diploma style commission document.

Great question; it really made me stop and think about mine. I am not familiar with Guard or reserve commissions but it did take some time for my active duty signed commissions to come through. I think mine came through my chain of command and it was a surprise as I didn’t give much thought about them. However, they do look cool framed and hanging. Not everyone will have this at home. Can’t add much on current timeframes, given I got mine 35 years ago :) However, I recommend you ask via your chain-of-command what to expect. Patient but persistent is key!
