How long does it take for a military retiree to receive back compensation?

For what? Active pay, VA benefits?

If you are talking about VA disability, it will usually be 15 days to a month depending on when you get your decision letter. If you filed the claim prior to discharge (BDD) or within a year of discharge then your effective date will go back to the day after your discharge. You will not get paid for the month immediately after you were retirement (i.e. wont get paid from Feb if your last day was 31 Jan). If you do then please let me know!

Million dollar question. Depending on the caseload of the facility processing your paperwork, can be some to several months. You can call VA and ask the status of your claim at [login to see] . You can also ask on VA.Gov, "Contact Us" tab in upper right, then "ask a question" then follow prompts on IRIS. You can, if unhappy, go through you congressman or senator on their website.
