On my father's side of the family, it goes back 5 generations from my father on back for grandfather's etc, he also had 3 brothers that served and some cousins. His son, my grandfather fought with the 32 Infantry Division in WWI. My father fought with a number of units in the European Theater and was part of the D-Day invasion with the 82 ABN. He also served in Korea and the very early part of Vietnam. I served from the end of Vietnam through the end of Desert Shield &amp; Storm. Only my father and I served more than 20 years. I have 1 brother who was not inclined to follow our family tradition so it was up to me. I have 3 daughters, no sons. They did not feel inclined to serve; however, my oldest daughter is a Detective with the Sheriff's Department. My family is descendents of the first Boynton's to come to this country from England. They were escaping persecution for their religious beliefs. I can't provide proof but I've been told by family that we do have descendents that fought in the Revolutionary War. My grandfather served in the Navy during WWII and Korea, and both my father and his brother were in the Navy in the Vietnam era. My brother-in-law is still active duty Navy. And, completing the family circle, my wife's grandfather and father were both sailors, too. The only odd man out was my uncle on my mother's side -- he was Air Force. Great Uncle - Sailor - Fought the Japanese during WWII along side his Marine Brother.  His son became a Sailor, and so did his son who is still an active duty CPO, Michael Fair.</div><div>2b. Great Uncle - Soldier - Fought North Koreans during the Korean War. His son became a Soldier and fought the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. </div><div>3. After his time in the Service, he spent the next 40 years working in the banking industry.<br><br>My oldest brother also had served in the Air Force as a Security Policeman (Law Enforcement) during the late '70's. My uncle was a Master Sergeant in the USMC. My older brother served 4 yrs in the Navy in the 87-90, my older sister has been in the Army Reserves for 17 yrs and is a Master Sergeant. I have served 13 yrs in the Army and my younger brother joined with me but he got out in 2004 after 1 tour in Iraq. He came back in for a second tour in Iraq and then was medically discharged as a SSG. I have a cousin that served 4yrs in the Active Army and is now Army Reserve and another cousin that is in the USMC. We don't have a history of military service before my father, but he enlisted before being drafted, so I guess you can say he started this whole thing. Bridges Freeman of Virginia and later North Carolina in the 1600s - those are all part of my family history. I think I am the 2nd officer in the entire family, but some more research will need to be done to figure that out for sure.<br /><br />Then going back further, there was a Lord / Knight and family (the Molyneux family of Sefton) that moved to the London area from Northern France (Normandy), where a line of Dukes (one's name was Geoffry, Count of Eu) from my family was established. From there, the lineage traces back to Charlemagne 1, Emperor, of the Holy Roman Empire. It may go back further, but that's all I have thus far. MAJ Derrick J. My paternal grandfather was an enlisted soldier in the British Army who fought at Gallipoli, Turkey in 1915 and served in the trenches of France and Belgium from 1916 to 1918.
