How many brothers, sisters or parents have you had in your immediate family?

I am sure most of us have family in the service and between our cousins and myself, we have had about 7 that served during my era. I have seen pride soar in the last past two decades and happy for that.

But how many are military in your direct family?

I had all my uncles from my fathers side of my family many first cousins where all in the Army, Air Force to include my two oldest brothers whom where both officers in the Army. Now let me not forget my little brother Army as well. I don't know the total number buts its pretty high Last name (Pabon). On my mother side (0).

I don't have much military history in my family at all. My grandfather served in the Massachusetts State Guard for a short time during WWII and tells me stories all the time about his interactions with German POWs at Fort Devens. He also served in the Navy for 2 years. Otherwise it's just me!

For me I have a big family history for military service. On my father's side of the family, it goes back 5 generations from my father on back for grandfather's etc, he also had 3 brothers that served and some cousins. My mother's side had my grandfather and great-grandfather, along with an uncle and 2 cousins.

My own family, my wife's father served, and I have 1 daughter and 1 son currently serving besides my 27 years myself.

I never pushed either one of my children, but I supported their choices and decisions, I just made sure they got what was the best for them before they signed the dotted line.

My great grandfather fought with the 1st Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the Civil War. His son, my grandfather fought with the 32 Infantry Division in WWI. My father fought with a number of units in the European Theater and was part of the D-Day invasion with the 82 ABN. He also served in Korea and the very early part of Vietnam. I served from the end of Vietnam through the end of Desert Shield & Storm. Only my father and I served more than 20 years. I have 1 brother who was not inclined to follow our family tradition so it was up to me. I have 3 daughters, no sons. They did not feel inclined to serve; however, my oldest daughter is a Detective with the Sheriff's Department. My family is descendents of the first Boynton's to come to this country from England. They were escaping persecution for their religious beliefs. I can't provide proof but I've been told by family that we do have descendents that fought in the Revolutionary War. Based on what I can prove, Military service was ingrained in our family so I don't doubt it's true.

I'm the first in my family to serve in the military followed by my brother and sister. My brother served 22.5-years in the Air Force as a Pilot and is now a commercial pilot for SouthWest. My sister is an OB/GYN Doctor in the Air Force going on 9-years of service.

I'm one of a long line of sailors in my family. My grandfather served in the Navy during WWII and Korea, and both my father and his brother were in the Navy in the Vietnam era. My brother-in-law is still active duty Navy. And, completing the family circle, my wife's grandfather and father were both sailors, too. The only odd man out was my uncle on my mother's side -- he was Air Force. But proud to have him in the lineage! Me, I'm a Marine Corps sailor, so I almost broke the tradition. But not quite, and proud to be Navy!

I love to share the Fair family's military history.

1. Father - Retired 1SG - 4 years in Korea, He's on RallyPoint.

2. Grandfather - Marine PFC - Fought the Japanese on my many islands from Guadalcanal to Nagasaki during WWII.

2a. Great Uncle - Sailor - Fought the Japanese during WWII along side his Marine Brother. His son became a Sailor, and so did his son who is still an active duty CPO, Michael Fair.

2b. Great Uncle - Soldier - Fought North Koreans during the Korean War. His son became a Soldier and fought the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War.

3. Great Grandfather - Soldier - Fought the Germans in France during WWI.

Here are some pictures, I think the uniforms will help you determine who is who.

My father had initially served in the Marine Corps Reserves and later served in the Air Force in finance, stateside, during the Korean War. After his time in the Service, he spent the next 40 years working in the banking industry.

My oldest brother also had served in the Air Force as a Security Policeman (Law Enforcement) during the late '70's. He's still protecting and serving the public in the same college town police department for 33 plus years.

I'm proud of the both, not only for their service to our country, but also for being a wise father and great older brother, respectively.

My father served 4 yrs in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and did 1 tour in Vietnam. My uncle was a Master Sergeant in the USMC. My older brother served 4 yrs in the Navy in the 87-90, my older sister has been in the Army Reserves for 17 yrs and is a Master Sergeant. I have served 13 yrs in the Army and my younger brother joined with me but he got out in 2004 after 1 tour in Iraq. He came back in for a second tour in Iraq and then was medically discharged as a SSG. I have a cousin that served 4yrs in the Active Army and is now Army Reserve and another cousin that is in the USMC. We don't have a history of military service before my father, but he enlisted before being drafted, so I guess you can say he started this whole thing. My wife is torn on if she wants any of our 6 children serving, you know what they say...Happy wife, happy life!

My father and his two brothers all served in the military. Dad was in the Army, one uncle (Paul) in the Army-Air Corps, and my favorite Uncle Bill) was in the Navy (go figure). At the same time my mother's brother (Uncle Hans) Served in the Wehrmacht and was killed on the Eastern Front near Stalingrad. Only one Cousin (Carl) served during Vietnam. That is the extent of my families Military service and I am proud of all of them.

My grandfather was in the Army Air Corps. Otherwise, only myself and my husband/his brother. My brother in law was in the USMC, and was struck by lightning in Iraq (as a meteorologist...sick joke? Irony?) so he is no longer in the service. He was pretty messed up for awhile, but is doing great now.

My husband's maternal grandmother escaped the Nazis in WWII by hiding in the mountains in France. I consider that to be pretty awesome.

My Father served in WWII in the Navy at 15, my Grand Father served in the Army and was MIA for a year. My Uncles served in Vietnam Army Ranger, Marine, Air Force, and I came in 1984 at 17 and have been serving for thirty years.

My niece is currently in the Army and on my Grand Mother's side they served in the Spanish Military.

I'm an only child, so no siblings in the military. But, my husband, sister in law,, and brother all are/were in the military.

In my more extended family, my father in law, uncle, and grandfathers all served.

Grandfather was a WWII Army veteran. My son is carrying on the familiy tradition (nod to Hank Jr.) as an MP SGT. Those of you at Ft Carson could meet him if you choose to make bad choices, LOL Oddest and yet most rewarding moment was during my last deployment as he was coming in and i was leaving, getting spending time togethor in Theater.

My Great Grandfather WWI US Army, My mothers father German Army WWII, My fathers Father US Navy Korean War,My Father US Army 1963-1969/ 1974 to 1978, Myself US Navy 1983 to 1997, My husband 1981 to 2003, our Son US Navy 2012 to Present. Now that is immediate family.

My Grandmothers Brothers were both in the Korean War, her sisters Husband was in the Korean war, and their oldest son was in the Vietnam War, One of her Brothers sons was in the Marines during the cold war, She had another sisters who's son was in the Navy. My dads Sisters son was in the Navy same time I was.

Both of my grandfathers were WWII vets, my mothers dad a nedic inthe Army Air Corps, my father's, a Nazi defect dduring the war who made his way tothe US as a refugee. My father was drafted for Nam vut was medically dq'd and currently my brother, sister and I all currently serve. This is just the immediate family as I have several family members cousins and further exrended that serve as well. Rich tradition here if I may humbly say so.

Considering the fact that TODAY, only .43% (that's the actual number) of Americans have served in the military, there is a massive disconnect and misunderstanding about the military for most Americans.

For me, my father (Vietnam era), grand father (WW2) and one Lt Col. Bridges Freeman of Virginia and later North Carolina in the 1600s - those are all part of my family history. I think I am the 2nd officer in the entire family, but some more research will need to be done to figure that out for sure.

Then going back further, there was a Lord / Knight and family (the Molyneux family of Sefton) that moved to the London area from Northern France (Normandy), where a line of Dukes (one's name was Geoffry, Count of Eu) from my family was established. From there, the lineage traces back to Charlemagne 1, Emperor, of the Holy Roman Empire. It may go back further, but that's all I have thus far.

One of my sons served with 3/75 IN in SW Asia. My paternal grandfather was an enlisted soldier in the British Army who fought at Gallipoli, Turkey in 1915 and served in the trenches of France and Belgium from 1916 to 1918. He left the British Army as a Lance Corporal when the war ended.
