Desert Storm/Desert Shield veteran as well. Some of the memories include the Highway of Death, the White Elephant, KKMC, Tap Line Road, Wolf Burgers, giant camel spiders, scuds, pro masks, hellacious sand storms, no hard stand buildings or running water/plumbing!....seems like a very long time ago!

Desert Storm era vet here. I was deployed for Operation Southern Watch, and I have the Southwest Asia Service medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal-Kuwait.

I was still in high school when the actual conflict was going on.

Most Definately.
18 year old Private on a 105mm gun in the 82nd Airborne.
A defining period in my life.
Unfortunately a war that has nearly been forgotten.
Most of us that were in then are now retired military like me, got out or are gone now. Wheres the time go?

Proud to have been there, damn glad to have served in what was the "last good war" because we rescued the Nation of Kuwait from total elimination. I know a lot of Kuwaitis and they still remember, they still celebrate and they still LOVE the USA. Want to feel welcome in the Middle east? Visit Kuwait on Liberation day. Private citizens signed up to host families of service members who died in the Liberation. Those families flew the loved ones over, hosted them, took them to wear their member fell and otherwise demonstrated the kind of respect and reverence that eases a parent's mind as to the validity of the cause their family member died in aid of. I have seen this first hand and it is one of the many stories behind such a short war.

Great Entertainment although my trip was towards the tail end when Desert Storm became Southern Watch but was made even more enlightening by being involved with Fiery Vigil in the Process and little did I realize that I would be back for Desert Strike on the same ship that I was on for Desert Storm.

Roger that, I was with DESRON 22 getting shuffled between the USS Caron (DD 966), USS Tripoli (LPH10), USS Missouri (BB 63) and USS Wisconsin (BB 64). Took a mine strike on Tripoli and received incoming missiles on Missouri so definitely had a pucker factor increase for a few minutes.

I am proud of ALL my service. The 3 Country Tour of The Gulf War is something I will never forget. Sadly one of the reasons that I will not forget it is the fact that I was forever changed. I came back with a laundry list of problems as long as my arm to include a dose of Serin. My life will never be the same. I used to give blood to the Red Cross, but now cannot. The last time I did they told me that I had too many things swimming in my blood that they could not identify.

Absolutely. It was right to help Kuwait become free. This is the 25th Anniversary of Liberation Day and I am in Kuwait. Many Kuwaitis sponsored families who lost a member during the war. They paid, out of their own pockets, to bring Americans to Kuwait to show them not only where their family member died, but to assure them that sacrifice will never be forgotten. Kuwait has been reborn and will always be the strongest friend America could ask for in this region. They still love us here and the still pay over $250 million each year to provide great food, air conditioning, housing and a great training area for our troops. So yes, be proud of your service, Two million people have never forgotten our friendship and sacrifices.

Im proud of every single day I was in, not just Desert Storm. But I gues what you mean is because it was so short, its possible some may think its not as important as say the recent wars of late. I used to think about that a lot. But as I have increased in age, my give a damn what other people think meter had decreased significantly. Present company, not so much. I do care about the opinions of my military family.But in certain cases, I care about no opinions. I guess thats if someone has passed the kidding around line into disrespect. Im sure most of us are likr that.
