I spend far too much time on RallyPoint every day. Sorry. It can&#39;t be avoided. I&#39;m retired. And I don&#39;t get out much anymore since the State of California told me that I had to reduce my outdoor use by 50%.<br /><br />This problem, too much time, was brought home to me yesterday when a brother-in-arms on RP laughed at me for not remembering him. Apparently, we had bumped into each other in five (by his count) separate discussions. Really. “Bumped” into each other is putting it mildly. We disagreed on almost everything. Thus, he took to making fun of me (maybe to discredit my opinion) after I mentioned that I didn&#39;t remember his name. <br /><br />Actually, I&#39;m good with names of people I&#39;ve met. I&#39;m a storyteller. I remember people, places, and events from the distant past, almost seventy-four years beginning in the cradle when I grabbed a steam radiator pipe. (You remember things like that) I wrote my journals of Infantry School and Vietnam about forty years after the fact and people comment all the time how accurate my descriptions are.<br /><br />So, why didn&#39;t I remember this young soldier/sailor/airman? The simple truth is that I focus on the discussion, not the person. Don&#39;t believe me? I&#39;m always surprised when I click on a comment to vote it up or respond and Grumpy Cat jumps out of my screen to announce I&#39;ve been blocked. That&#39;s happened countless times with the same people because I simply don&#39;t remember them by name and they keep posting topics that interest me.<br /><br />Actually, I don&#39;t have to remember every discussion. I&#39;m not a liar. (I&#39;m lazy. It takes too much effort to remember lies so that you don&#39;t contradict yourself when you fall in with the same people or topic each time. Maybe that&#39;s why Hillary always looks exhausted, ya think?) Also, my comments are based on my principles. I don&#39;t have to worry about saying something different than I&#39;ve said before nor saying something different than what I do. I fully agree. There are so many interesting topics that pop up it&#39;s hard to remember who I disagree with or agree with on any specific thread. However, I will occasionally CC: people if I think they may be interested in a specific topic, or I believe they are SME&#39;s in the field in question (and I&#39;d like a logic check). Also it seems I&#39;ve always got some project or other going on, Like right now I&#39;m planning the Officer installation dinner where I&#39;ll give up Command of my American Legion Post after 5 years. And at the same time planning the Independence Day Parade. And still playing Admin on a small political message board. But with all that I do try to get 4 or 5 comments in on RP every day...Sometimes more sometimes less, and sometimes I&#39;ll just read for an hour or so.... Always something worth at least reading... I too focus on the discussion, and I absolutely enjoy it when someone disagrees with me. It allows me to re-examine my beliefs and expand my brain by thinking about what is being said. 98% of the time, I will not change my opinion, but I gain knowledge about the other side of a topic. That makes a discussion valuable.
