How much time do you spend on RallyPoint every day?

I'll admit it. I spend far too much time on RallyPoint every day. Sorry. It can't be avoided. I'm retired. And I don't get out much anymore since the State of California told me that I had to reduce my outdoor use by 50%.

This problem, too much time, was brought home to me yesterday when a brother-in-arms on RP laughed at me for not remembering him. Apparently, we had bumped into each other in five (by his count) separate discussions. Really. “Bumped” into each other is putting it mildly. We disagreed on almost everything. Thus, he took to making fun of me (maybe to discredit my opinion) after I mentioned that I didn't remember his name.

Actually, I'm good with names of people I've met. I'm a storyteller. I remember people, places, and events from the distant past, almost seventy-four years beginning in the cradle when I grabbed a steam radiator pipe. (You remember things like that) I wrote my journals of Infantry School and Vietnam about forty years after the fact and people comment all the time how accurate my descriptions are.

So, why didn't I remember this young soldier/sailor/airman? The simple truth is that I focus on the discussion, not the person. Don't believe me? I'm always surprised when I click on a comment to vote it up or respond and Grumpy Cat jumps out of my screen to announce I've been blocked. That's happened countless times with the same people because I simply don't remember them by name and they keep posting topics that interest me.

Actually, I don't have to remember every discussion. I'm not a liar. (I'm lazy. It takes too much effort to remember lies so that you don't contradict yourself when you fall in with the same people or topic each time. Maybe that's why Hillary always looks exhausted, ya think?) Also, my comments are based on my principles. I don't have to worry about saying something different than I've said before nor saying something different than what I do. My principles guide me consistently.

So, there you have it. I spend way too much time on RallyPoint. Do you?

I check it every day. My mind does not function as it did 20+ years ago so trying to figure out how to get around some sites and pages take me a few minutes to hours to figure out. smh I think I sniffed to much JP-4 and JP-8 back in the day lol

I have it "running in the background" so total time doesn't mean much, since it's not consecutive.

As for your comments about topics and discussions over people. I fully agree. There are so many interesting topics that pop up it's hard to remember who I disagree with or agree with on any specific thread. However, I will occasionally CC: people if I think they may be interested in a specific topic, or I believe they are SME's in the field in question (and I'd like a logic check).

It depends on the day. Today I've been speeding quite a bit of time on here. I do try to get on regularly to do admin chores. I like responding to post that seem interesting and try to stay away from the outrageous and flamboyant ones. The whole blocking or down voting of folks has never appealed to me.

Too much depends on your discretionary time. Many times I peruse the site while I'm sitting on my porch overlooking the scenery and listening to 50s music. I would refer to that as multitasking.

I thought I was the only one that got Grumpy Cat. I guess some folks are easy to offend.
Perhaps, a Grumpy Cat score card. This type if award could be used to show leadership and compassion for Freedom of Speech.

Daily at a minimum. But length of time varies. All depends on my work schedule (currently on lunch break as i type this), my wife's schedule and how much my wife and dog are nagging me.

I haven't blocked or down voted anyone as of yet. Some topics i'm in "agree to disagree mode". Everybody has their opinions. Though some folks on here get a little worked up when disagreed with.

I come in when I have a chance, I have a very intensive FB with family spread out from Germany to Texas (and currently one in Korea) and a dozen places in between. Also it seems I've always got some project or other going on, Like right now I'm planning the Officer installation dinner where I'll give up Command of my American Legion Post after 5 years. And at the same time planning the Independence Day Parade. And still playing Admin on a small political message board. But with all that I do try to get 4 or 5 comments in on RP every day...Sometimes more sometimes less, and sometimes I'll just read for an hour or so.... Always something worth at least reading...

I check in 1-2 times per day, CPT Jack Durish. Some sessions are longer than others (like today). So to your question: is that too much? Some days, probably yes. But I always learn something, or receive a new perspective on an old idea. That's what keeps bringing me back. When I post, I do check to make sure I'm not cross posting or repeating something that is already out there. In other words, I don't want to contribute to the noise we all face. And I also appreciate a good story.

I'm rarely here. I'm usually too busy supporting all my dependatamuses that the IRS won't let me claim on my taxes at the end of the year. I'm really only here on the weekends when I have some me time, as rare as that is.

CPT Jack Durish It is the first thing that pops up when I open my internet browser. I too focus on the discussion, and I absolutely enjoy it when someone disagrees with me. It allows me to re-examine my beliefs and expand my brain by thinking about what is being said. 98% of the time, I will not change my opinion, but I gain knowledge about the other side of a topic. That makes a discussion valuable.

Two or three times a day. The first two are usually to see if there are any new posts in the threads I am following such as transitioning, resume, etc. The last time is when I am at home winding down for the day and I will scroll through the trending now posts.

Not as much time as I would like. Actually, I don't spend a lot of time RP. Sometimes I'll glance at it for a few minutes maybe over the course of 2 or 3 days, others I will go days without looking at it. It gets tough to logon when so many of the arguments have devolved into mudslinging contests much like you see on other social media. RP was to be my break from FB but it is little different except I don't have to endure people wanting me to think their child is as adorable as they think it is.

Typically I'll only jump on at work unless I'm involved in a pretty big conversation, then I might check in at home. But I prefer this to other social media platforms because it's more civilized and the discussions are fairly fresh and informative.
