I saw enlisted have early DUIs and go on to E7 or E8. For some people, a DUI is a hard no regardless how long ago it was. For others, if it was one time and you have been a stellar performer they may not factor it as high. It's just really going to depend on who is on the board when your time comes to be looked at for SFC. Then review your professional development map and review the da Pam for what your MOS requires for critical development time.

Speaking to SGMs who have sat on the board, the further distance between you and the GOMOR the better you'll be rated. However, it's there forever and every single board member must review it. You can probably get the GOMOR moved to your restricted file, but it's still going to be on your 1059.

Aside from the GOMOR itself, the DUI will prevent you from taking certain broadening assignments you may need to be more competitive than your peers for promotion Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 18 at 2022 10:19 AM 2022-07-18T10:19:02-04:00 2022-07-18T10:19:02-04:00 CAPT Kevin B. 7779816

Everyone agrees you're better off without it. Having sat boards (all have to comply with DoD Inst.) the time aspect plays, but only to a point. Being junior when it happens also helps. The reality is, unless you're a water walker, you won't get picked up at first crunch, who knows at second crunch, and a long necked turkey around Thanksgiving on third crunch. That's where the remaining zoned competition needs to underwhelm the board members vs. your record. What happens in the finishing stages of of the third crunch, the board collectively asks themselves "is there a record better than this last one on the select list"? It's similar to the minority and female question that's scrubbed, but reported vs. non minorities. It's so up in the air, Vegas won't post odds on this one.
