CPT Private RallyPoint Member 279453

Why make this a new branch instead of a functional area? Many of the objectives stated by the Cyber Branch (Cyber Attack, Cyber Defense) are already being done by MI professionals and infrastructure being maintained by Signal professionals. How will a Cyber Branch streamline anything? I feel like it will create competition with MI and Signal. How will the new Cyber Branch fit into the Army's MI infrastructure? 2014-10-15T18:18:37-04:00 CPT Private RallyPoint Member 279453

Why make this a new branch instead of a functional area? The problem is, they are not specifically cyber warriors to the exclusion of everything else. They can transition out and come back... or not.

The Army is notorious for mis-assigning functional area personnel. The only way around this to make sure the Cyber teams are properly assigned and trained in full spectrum is to make it specific MOSes in either 25 or 35 or a new branch all together. Fires has electronic warfare, Signal has IT and tactical communication services, MI has SIGINT and now Cyber has network defense? Is that an accurate description of the responsibilities for each?

Seems like a lot of cooks in the 'cyber' kitchen.
