The compartment, in the U.S.S. California, in which the air compressor, to which Scott was assigned as his battle station, was flooded as the result of a torpedo hit. The remainder of the personnel evacuated that compartment but Scott refused to leave, saying words to the effect "This is my station and I will stay and give them air as long as the guns are going.''Response by SGT James Allen made May 19 at 2015 3:45 PM2015-05-19T15:45:03-04:002015-05-19T15:45:03-04:00Capt Mark Strobl681131

Will have to flip a coin:
Heads - Lance Corporal Kyle Carpenter, USMC
Tails - Colonel Wesley Fox, USMCResponse by Capt Mark Strobl made May 19 at 2015 5:46 PM2015-05-19T17:46:14-04:002015-05-19T17:46:14-04:00CSM Charles Hayden681679

Mitch Paige, COL USMC Retired, CMH, Guadacanal, Oct 1942.

COL Paige counseled me when I was irate, (totally pissed), over seeing that "Japanese Self-Defense Forces" were allowed access to the 3rd compartment on the USS Arizona for the purpose of placing a wreath to the dead sailors.
