I understand the M60 is no longer in service. Does the USMC still have a tripod employed crew served Machine Gun?

Sir I think there are some National Guard units that may still have the M-60. Although it is heavier I would prefer the 60 to the 240. I have personally seen the pig fire full of mud in under the feed tray!

I carried one for almost 2 years and during operation desert storm/ great weapon - I believe it is much better for use with dismounted operations / also I believe some special ops units still use it with some modifications.

I was told under the Table the M-60 A-5 or 6 was being circulated... a cut down version lighter model

Ah- Traverse and Elevation those were the days,thank God we did not have to hump it in the boonies,bipods worked just fine,feed pawl assemblies were a little funky though,heard later models cleared that problem up,hope so the "Pig " could bring serious smoke when it was chugging.

I can't speak for the Marine Corps, but this is the tripod we use.

The way I was taught to use it, the gunner fires the weapon and the A gunner loads the weapon, and adjusts the T&E. I found it to be much more effective than the bipod.

I know they have the SAW which uses 5.56 natio rounds similar feed similar rate of fire

The Marines use the M240G. That's as of 2009. We prefer good solid arms over cool tech.

Yes, the M240 and of course the M2 are both Crew Served and both tripod and vehicle mounted, as well as the M249.

The M240G is easier to field strip and clean. The M60 was so old that parts were loose and jams were common in its last years.

The "PIG" cooking off after extended fire without barrel change. "Joe Snuffy" went off with the asbestos glove to cook C Rations no were to be found. Pouring water or urine to cool barrel using ripped utility shirt to effect barrel change.

My first crew weapon. Hate to love her , but love to have when the bullets fly. I was later issued the M249 SAW, Great weapon, easy to handle and keep operational. Isn't there a crew served 50cal, in the weapons platoon?
You need a opening in that wall? Cal up the 50 cal crew and it's done!

Yes, I saw the M60 phase out and the New M240G take its place. Other variants of the M240 are out there for different branches.

The M60 is being used in limited service it's still around manly serveing with Reserve & Special Operations units . The M240 is allot better option.
