If my work day is scheduled on a holiday, I work it. The company pays me pretty well and we get all manner of holiday pay hours for it. From my past experiences on a ship a half day usually meant getting off two hours earlier than normal and that depends on your division's workload. Some people could be total arses and make you stay because they don't want to pull their weight.
