If you were the President, who should be pardoned in January 2017?

It's a presidential tradition to grant pardons to federal prisoners just before the President leaves his office. Who do you think deserves a 2017 Presidential Pardon? Leonard Peltier? Someone else? No one at all?

The people in jail under Marijuana possession in all 50 states, or especially in states where it is legal currently, or even just people convicted after the bill was passed but before it was legal. They are a waste of tax money.

This is an interesting topic.

The simple answer is anyone we believe who has had a "travesty of Justice." In essence, if we believe the US Justice system has failed them, they should absolutely be pardoned.

As an example, programs "similar" to Project Innocence where DNA evidence prove conclusively that someone did not actually commit the crime in question, yet they are serving the time, or have completed the sentence. Why wouldn't we Pardon them?

This is an Executive Power that isn't used ENOUGH in my opinion.

Our Justice system is founded on the the concept of making sure only the guilty go to jail, so if there is even a little doubt... even after the fact, our chief executives should be using this power more.

If I recall, the current president has used his pardon/commutation powers far less than most previous presidents. If his most recent commutation of the life sentences given to a few "repeat marijuana offenders" is any indication, he should commute or pardon every person who is in jail for non-violent drug offenses...especially if they're only for possession.
