If you deploy in a combat zone, your job would more than likely be the same exact job that you're doing in Garrison. And what do you mean is it worth it? That depends on what you want. If you're wanting a combat related job or skill set, then no. But if you're wanting to stay on the support side of the house, I'd say yes. Everyone else from nurses, doctors, chaplains, and pencil pushers deploy to the combat zone and have been killed in combat. As a 25U you will almost always be stationed in combat unit, there are very few non deploying units a 25U can go to Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 7 at 2021 11:05 AM 2021-01-07T11:05:41-05:00 2021-01-07T11:05:41-05:00 CPT Private RallyPoint Member 6638845

What do you mean "Is it worth it?" If it wasn't then why are you in the Army? We serve our nation when it calls us to do so. As for your MOS of 25U. There are three categories of MOSs in the Army. They are Combat Arms, Combat Service Support, and Service Support. But that is primarily for organization. If you think you are going to be pulling triggers like Black Hawk Down then you have been misinformed. You may deploy if you go to a Brigade Combat Team. They are the Army's fighting units. But then you could to a support unit like a Signal Battalion or a Headquarters. Then you could also got to a training command and work on a base. Even if you ended up in a Brigade Combat Team they have maneuver units that do the fighting. It wouldn't much sense to have you fight when you have three battalions of infantrymen.

The Army is what you make of it. I joined at 18 and went off to war a couple years later. It sucked but I still think it was worth because that is what I signed up to do. You are the only one that can worth into what you are doing. I am a 25S which I’m sure most folks would say is an even more “non-combat” MOS, and yet I’ve been in combat. Another thing to keep in mind is that the wars aren’t as active as they used to be. Just because you aren’t a combat arms MOS, does NOT mean you may not end up in situations... Combat is generally a 360 environment and the concept of enemy/friendly lines doesn’t exist like in WW I/II. Comm guys see combat just like medical professionals, truck drivers and everyone else serving in a forward environment. It will ultimately depend on your unit and where you deploy but if you wanted to avoid combat you chose the wrong profession. If you want more opportunities for it there are always chances to volunteer for other things.

But don’t really focus on that at this point. Just train hard and absorb all the knowledge you can Response by SSgt Christophe Murphy made Jan 10 at 2021 2:44 AM 2021-01-10T02:44:02-05:00 2021-01-10T02:44:02-05:00 MSG Private RallyPoint Member 7089679

If you're wanting to know if 25U falls into the Combat Arms area of MOSs, no it does not. Is it a non-combat MOS? Nope. Damn near every MOS deployed to an area of operations that has hostile actions will see some sort of combat. IDF (indirect fire), for example.
