As a result, emotional reactions now govern decision making. Compounding that, we have media and political leaders that are willing and adept at manipulating those feelings for their own advantage.
Not necessarily "third world", but very reminicent of the days of yellow journalism and state propaganda.
Those were not the "good old days", and I pray we don't go there. It led to complete disasters in the late ninteenth-early twentieth century. Whole nations collapsed. Economic chaos. Indiginous cultures destroyed in North America and Africa. I don't know if these problems are becoming more frequent, or if that is just our perception based on a need to fill a 24/7 media schedule and social media. Even 10 years ago it we likely wouldn't hear about most of these issues because we didn't have the means to pass information along so quickly to so many people i.e. smartphones.

On the other hand, by constantly reporting on these things, maybe we're creating the problem.
