Is it possible to obtain top security clearance with your foreign parents/spouse? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-it-possible-to-obtain-top-security-clearance-with-your-foreign-parents-spouse

Trying to reclass to 35L but my parents are Korean citizens with permanent resident card living in US. They or myself have never been out of United States last 15 years. My wife is Japanese national currently waiting for her permanent resident card. It sounds like a long shot for me with all those foreign ties, however I already got SSBI T5 favorable, I dont necessarily know how it affects onto the TS investigation though.. Other than it, I am clean. Depending on the current rules, your wife may need to get a U.S. citizenship, but not necessarily. Noone on here can tell you if you'll be accepted to 35L, it's an application MOS. So get onto the IKN recruiting site and ask a 35L Recruiter, the only person who can answer your questions and stop your packet. Before you say, "I'm doing research" you're not because Noone on here is the subject matter expert so anything anyone says here is speculation. I've put about a dozen CI agents into the field. You need to ask this stuff to the CI Recruiter and the CI Propenent SFC Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 20 Apr 2021 05:03:56 -0400 2021-04-20T05:03:56-04:00 Response by SSgt Christophe Murphy made Apr 20 at 2021 9:11 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-it-possible-to-obtain-top-security-clearance-with-your-foreign-parents-spouse?n=6915394&urlhash=6915394

It's possible but this is something you will need to work through with your S-2/G-2 offices to get done correctly. When I became an agent, you could not have an immediate family member as a foreign national. But every situation is different. It all depends on each individual's background. OPM looks at a whole person standard and looks through everything in the SF86 when determining to grant a clearance whether Secret or TS.

It might take a little longer for the investigation but it's possible to get a TS yes. Do you currently have a TS or you had one at one point? If you are up for a T5R (T5R is what used to be SBPR and T5 is what used to be SSBI), it could take longer to adjudicate.

Korea and Japan are not adversary countries so it's likely you would get a T5 or T5R granted. Only difference is he already had his TS granted and as a result he did not require a waiver for having parents in S. korea when he submitted his application on IKN. As I tell everyone who wants to go Lima, put in your packet and let the powers who have final say make that decision.
