MAJ Private RallyPoint Member, I read the article and it makes sense, but I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around President Obama being a conservative. That said, the points made in the article seem valid. And I found another article (from 2011) that addresses the same theory:

When it comes to Politicians, I don't see a nickel's worth of difference between Republicans and Democrats any more. Yes, they all espouse certain ideals fitting to their party's platforms/talking points, but when it comes down to action, they all pretty much fall flat.

The only thing I actually find surprising is the comment "keep in mind this is coming from The American Conservative, not Huffington Post" as if one is more credible than the other. I personally don't see either one of those as a credible news source as each is equally slanted toward its respective political ideology.

Wow... So according to this article, when Obama was blaming Republicans, he was in fact blaming himself. I say this guy's full of it, and he's trying to do what the majority of politicians these days seem to do, and that is divide our country as much as possible.

I can see how one might be able to consider the President a ‘Republican’, if we were willing to take the original Democratic Republican party of Jefferson as the foundation of a party and the Republican Party the legacy of the Federalist, but the problem would be that the modern Republican and Democratic Parties would both just be branches of the same party, the Federalist…which in a way is true…and which would mean there is no longer a party that fights to protect the people and individual states from a tyrannical Federal government…which I would agree is also true.

So yes, Obama is the head of the most tyrannical party in our two party system, and we can interchange the name Republican and Democrat and considering this draws attention to how poorly served the party system is in representing the citizens and states of our Nation when we longer have a party fighting for individual liberties and states rights.

If you look at the placements on the political compass it actually has President Obama not too far from President GW Bush on the Authoritarian / Conservative box. We thankfully do not seem to have true left of center politicians in our mix, but the real issue is the Authoritarian politicians. Which seems to be most of them.

Interesting article.

I don't think it matters who identifies whom with which party. As we have debated before on this site, the parties have changed so much over the years, it really does not matter which party is which. What matters is the individual's beliefs and policies.

It makes little difference to me what label people want to put on Obama, except one: "President of the United States". That one really bothers me very much.

We had had only one kind of piss poor representation for the last 30 years on either side.

A perfect example, Mitch McConnell is going to jump on ol' RP and answer questions. We gave him some hard ones. You know what he did? Ducked out like the chicken shit he is. He sounds good when dealing with the run of the mill stupid voter, but when vets ask educated questions he ran away scared. That is what we have representing us.

How about NAFTA? It was a bipartisan money grab that has cost us all jobs and moved us from a manufacturing economy to a consumer economy. Manufacturing economies thrive, consumer economies die. It was not good for any American and any moron could see that!
