Is Rosetta Stone still available on AKO?

I was told at one point in time that Rosetta Stone was available on AKO for either free, or at a lower cost than buying it from the website or a third-party source. Has this ever been true, if it has is it still true, and where can I find it?

HeadStart via JKO or ALMS is the Army's new contract, from what I recall.

Actually the Army has something even better now. It is a online tele-teaching program. You get a real instructor that you actually speck with . I took an Arabic Course at Fort Bragg. My instructor also taught online. It is for SF guys but if there are open seats you can jump in. But there are set times for the classes. If you sign up and don't use it is will reflect. Now that I am back in the US I am going to try to keep working on m Arabic.

I did use the JKO training and found it to be horrible. With SOFTS you can ask questions. When I was learning Arabic it was a nightmare. I had a lot of questions.

RS was retired about two years ago when they ended the contract. HeadStart is the way the Army is going now

SGT. I recommend you use SOFTS online. It's much better than Rosetta Stone. With SOFTS you get an actual instructor teaching you the language of choice to USASOC standards (which are pretty high). I'm enrolled in the program right now and it very fun and promotes a great learning environment. 3 days a week for 2 hours.

To answer you question, YES it is still offered, but on a wait list program. You submit your email at the Joint Language University website and you will put on a list for the program. You are given a time slot to use it (period of a few months if I remember correctly). I used it last year when I finally got the email with the download.

SSG(P) James Starnater, Years ago Army personnel could take Rosetta Stone courses through Army e-Learning (Skilsoft/Skillport) Which could be found on AKO. Rosetta Stone lisence for the Army was discontinued so long ago I can't remember when. There are other avenues to get it for free like through on-post library and may require you to be on a waiting list.
There are so may ways to learn another language without having to break the bank like everyone has commented on this thread. I'll through one more to your kit-bag, its called Duolingo http://www.duolingo.com . You can access it from the web, your android device and so on. Voted as best Educational Start-up for 2013.

Yes, Rosetta Stone was available to us active folks for free. I took French and German. It isn't available for retired folks and since I have been out 5 years now, I have no idea if they still have it.

Yes you can still get rosetta stone and mango for free as military or military family through the mwr portal. Rosetta stone can then be used from your phone or computer.

There are also other options that the mwr libraries have, I recommend pimsleur. I hope that answers your question. Below I'll include links

it sure was! I saw it looking through AKO years ago before ets-ing, had all the languages that you could think about too. I was going through the German one just for the heck of it. but from what I hear and read now, they discontinued it. sad.
