I certainly takes out the equation of "applying" for a job you may not really want. Transitioning into your own business, where you set the standards and the bar for performance is far better than possibly trying to reset your bar "down" to fit into the corporate world. Your work ethic has already been established and as a Military Officer (or even enlisted) your integrity, honor and discipline in getting the job done is head and shoulders above your civilian counterparts.

Best of luck to you and thank you for your service!!! Any business that creates jobs, brings independence and allows freedom to grow the way you want is more in line with what I am asking. It takes time to build out the legal side and to protect your company yet the freedom that comes from that is definitely there. There are so many things you can do. No matter what business you choose there are a couple of things I feel are highly important before you decide to begin a business. First you must get rid of blaming and excuses and take responsibility for yourself and your future and get into the right mindset. It is easy to blame the economy, your relationships, others around you and anything else and even harder to take a look in the mirror and own your future. This is an important rule I have learned that I carry forward in my business. Owning a business is not for everyone.

The other day, I sat in legendary Bill Curry's office, a NFL player who played for the Green Bay Packers when Vince Lombardi was the coach and we talked for two hours. One principle about starting a business is perseverance and this is what he says about that. "Never Succumb to the Fellowship of the Miserable." When you read other responses pay attention to their mindset and their attitudes. My motto, stay in the fight. It has served me well in the formation of my business and my income will triple this year as I left the service. Mindset is everything and these kinds of lessons are super important.

Networking has grown my business exponentially. It is all in how you do it. What are some things others are doing to network beyond placing information with others that would help them grow?
