Doesn't matter when you do it. A company level commander can sign a normal PCS leave, but you'll need an O-6, unless delegated, to sign a PTDY. That's what I've always done, and that's what everyone that has come in or out of all three of my past units has done. Though if the Soldier does not report to the Post Housing office prior to beginning the last 10 days of hisor her authorized leave, which is in conjunction with the regular leave, he or she will be charged those ten days, regardless of them using it for house hunting. My suggestion would be to have two leave forms IOT prevent confusion among junior Soldiers. You would create a DA31 with the leave and PTDY in it's entirety, but in the comments section give the dates of PTDY and actual amount of days chargeable leave you are taking. You will need an O-5 (usually the BC) or higher to sign for it though. If you are doing non-contiguous, then yes, you will need to have a separate one for each.
