I have a story from a soldier of the month board. One of the SGMs asked me a question and I didn't understand him, so I asked him to repeat it. He did, and I still didn't understand him. So, I had a choice ... ask him to repeat the question again, or ... just say, "I don't know, Sergeant Major." I took the easy way out and told him I didn't know. This was 1976 and he was asking something about President Ford. As I walked out of the board, he said to me, "There's a Ford in your future" (which was a popular commercial at that time). Bottom line, though, was that I won the board! All's well that ends well.
All of my SGT board questions were pretty run-of-the-mill, and I answered them all. I actually got a max score from every board member except my own 1SG, who docked me 10 points for reasons still unknown...the end result was a 198, and I made SGT the next month. As CW5 (Join to see) said - all's well that ends well.
