Intelligence is one area of DOD that will not suffer nearly as badly from downsizing as other fields, for military or civilian employees.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 31 at 2014 10:56 AM2014-03-31T10:56:21-04:002014-03-31T10:56:21-04:00SFC Gary Fox90549<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have been seeing a lot of key management positions posted in the private sector for logistics. <div><br></div><div>SFC Watkins, is also correct about the intelligence area; however, I have noticed those opportunities are not as abundant in the private sector as they were two or three years ago. Most of those are working as contractors, something I did for almost three years after retiring. They're not currently paying as much as they did during the height of GWOT and I'm afraid the pay and employment opportunities will decline once we are out of Afghanistan. Contractor employment dropped significantly after we left Iraq.<br><div><br></div><br /><div><br></div><br /></div>Response by SFC Gary Fox made Apr 1 at 2014 9:00 AM2014-04-01T09:00:55-04:002014-04-01T09:00:55-04:00MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca139232<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Military Police. <br /><br />When we deployed to Iraq 05-06, The Army was making MP Guard companies out of every unit they could get their hands on that didn't fulfill a role in the occupation & transition of the country. Artillery, ADA, Chemical, Infantry, Transportation, you name it.<br /><br />Why - because all existing MP companies & battalions (AD, NG & RV) were already committed and we needed replacements to fill the gaps. We were getting officers from other branches with MP related experience to help fill our staff we were getting Marine & AF security companies to fill in. <br /><br />If you have chance to get MP Qualified I believe you'll be able to get a job anywhere.Response by MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca made May 30 at 2014 8:23 PM2014-05-30T20:23:46-04:002014-05-30T20:23:46-04:00SSG Jeffrey Spencer139320<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Depends on your aptitude and interests. A lot of emphasis in the private sector is on IT jobs, and they pay well. If you want to continue in public service, engineering is a great course. There are 27 classes of engineer, so pick one that fits you.Response by SSG Jeffrey Spencer made May 30 at 2014 9:58 PM2014-05-30T21:58:38-04:002014-05-30T21:58:38-04:002014-03-31T09:38:11-04:00
