If your going into IRR it should remain E-5. It depends on how long you were to stay IRR if you'd remain an E-5 LTC John Mohor Mon, 03 Dec 2018 10:07:14 -0500 2018-12-03T10:07:14-05:00 Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 3 at 2018 10:57 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/made-e5-in-november-2018-will-i-be-able-to-keep-my-rank-when-i-cross-over-to-the-reserves-on-may-06-2019?n=4179189&urlhash=4179189

AR 600-8-19 is the reference you seek.
3–32. Rules for processing service remaining requirements
a. Regular Army and U.S. Army Reserve Active Guard Reserve.
(1) There is no service obligation incurred for promotion to SGT.
(2) Soldiers incur a 12–month service obligation upon promotion to SSG. Compute service remaining requirement from the effective date of promotion or, if promotion pin-on is delayed for administrative reasons, the service remaining requirement will begin on the original date the Soldier would have otherwise been promoted. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 03 Dec 2018 10:57:47 -0500 2018-12-03T10:57:47-05:00 Response by SMSgt Thor Merich made Dec 3 at 2018 11:01 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/made-e5-in-november-2018-will-i-be-able-to-keep-my-rank-when-i-cross-over-to-the-reserves-on-may-06-2019?n=4179201&urlhash=4179201

The honest answer is “maybe.” Which Reserves are you transferring too? The Navy? If it’s Navy, it’s probably need to find a E-5 spot in a USNR unit. If you are changing services, you will most likely get bumped down to E-4. Is your enlistment up in May? Can you extend for 6 months to make it permanent? CPO Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 03 Dec 2018 11:17:45 -0500 2018-12-03T11:17:45-05:00 2018-12-03T09:55:18-05:00
