For those that have, where do/did you serve? How did your military service factor into your decision to go into law enforcement? Do you have any interesting stories, photos, etc. to share?

I was a civilian police officer from 2005-2010. Still so many brothers & sisters in the badge. Do I miss it? Mostly yes, but I DO NOT miss the administration that would rather stab you in the back & rip out your spine in order to glorify themselves.

I have been a Deputy Sheriff now for over 9 years in Northern California El Dorado and Sacramento Counties. Still serving with the Army in the National Guard now for 14 years. I only went into law enforcement because I had met my ex wife. She didn't want to be an active duty military wife and she wanted to be a police officer like many of her family members. I thought about law enforcement as a fall back plan but once I met her it became my primary objective. So I put on the badge and started serving in the military part time. I reclassified from mechanic to MP and I really enjoy serving in both capacities. God had blessed me with the skills to protect the weak and innocent and with the capacity to use violent force if necessary to stop evil. LTC Ret. David Grossman has taught me a lot about how to effectively function in this life choice. I think serving in the military first and seeing such horrible things around the world has enabled me to be a more compassionate Deputy Sheriff.

It was the only profession that I could relate to. The Marines trained me to do one thing and I did that very well. After serving 2 tours in Nam as a combat Marine, being in LE was the best choice I ever made. It was a great job and I enjoyed every bit of my 20 year profession. I was able to do everything that everyone else wished they could do. Do I have stories, you bet your ass I do but it would take so long to tell them now. I am in the process of writing a book about my Law Enforcement career.

GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad, I've been in law enforcement for 25 years in one way, shape, or form. I was in LE before the first Gulf War. When I saw all my fellow LEOs who were reservists getting called to active duty to don a uniform and go fight, I got patriotic and joined the service.

Some 23 years later, here I am...still in LE, just with a different uniform. Although my 6490 designator (MOS) does far more than LE, it remains a focus point in most assignments, as I'm usually the Provost Marshal, as well as the Force Protection guy.

After having served 9 years in the Air Force, I was a LEO in Fort Lauderdale, Fl (22 Years - Retired), Radford, VA (7 Years - Retired), Colton, Ca (1 Year - Reserve LEO). Currently a Fraud Investigator for Social Services (Retiring permanently in 6 1/2 months). I go to the Police Memorial at least every couple of years right after I go to the Vietnam Memorial. Really breaks my heart each time i remember the lives lost protecting and defending Our Country and Communities.

I retired as a Security Forces Member, I work in several different rolls, S4 NCOIC, patrolman, desk sergeant/alarm monitor, Flight sergeant, and armorer, but my favorite job was as a Combat Arms Instructor, when I retired I was running my units CATM shop.
I'm no longer LE but I still work security, as well as an firearms instructor with my employer.

I still miss the job and the friends I had made over the years.

I went into the Marine Corps as an MP. I was assigned to HMX-1 and then recalled for Desert Shield and sent to Camp Pendleton as a base MP. After getting out and completing my bachelor's degree I got a job with the Ulster County, NY Sheriff's Office. Been there 22.5 years.

I have been in the Army National Guard for 26 years, the last 19 as an MP, where I currently serve as the commander of a Law and Order Detachment. On the civilian side, I have been a police officer for over 17 years. This year, I organized the local Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony.

I was a Security Policeman/Law Enforcement for 20 years in the Untied States Air Force. I chose not to continue after I retired but I do miss it sometimes.

Started my 35 year career in Law Enforcement as a Army MP (72-75) in Kaiserslautern, FRG. Many years later retired from the National Park Service (2012). Worked as a Patrolman and Deputy Sheriff in Wyoming.
