Military enlisted job ranks 198 out 200!

I was listening to Mike & Mike this morning and heard them talking about the best and worst jobs I was surprised to hear that enlisted Military was one of the worst! It ranks 198 out of 200... I know it's not the top job out there but 198, really! Where do you think we should be rated? Why do you think it is rated so low?

I skimmed through the article and it seems to be an opiniated list based off one persons (Lee) perspective as the jobs are related to stress and pay.

According to the list, if you are an enlisted Soldier assigned to a public affairs unit where you work in newspaper and broadcast production, you are in three of the bottom five jobs.

It must be a living hell to work for AFN...

When they ask me isn't this job boring, I say yep, don't you miss the excietement, Nope. It was great but damn "Petty Officer Nagel you need to type the message in 3 minutes it needs to be on the Presidents desk in 7" "Petty Officer Nagel can you transport this Classified Material from point a to point b (If anything goes wrong $10,000 and 10 years in Jail)". Sleeping under the SM-2 Launcher, Sleeping Beside the 5'54 Cal Ammo Tube. Yeah it was great but I don't miss the stress.

If the military is the 3rd worst job then based on pay it is Number 1 compare to what I get.

I disagree. The difference between a great job and a terrible job is largely opinion. The military is often a stressful environment to work in but so are many other places. There are bad jobs within the military but there are plenty of great ones, too, so to say that being enlisted in the military is a bad job ignores much of that which makes it a great career choice. No, the pay isn't the highest but troops can make a comfortable living if they are smart about it.

I think they are basing their "stress" for the enlisted personnel on a war time situation. Of course war is going to be stressful. But when the country is not at war, willing to bet our place will shoot straight up.

Plus I don't think our enlisted joined because of whether it was high or low level of stress or even the money aspect. Our organization is based on people that want to serve their country; do something greater than themselves.

A academic endovor that is flawed. Too much focus on statistics and not real findings. If they truly did their research they would find just about every civilian job has a military enlisted/officer equivalent (save for combat MOS/AFSC). If they dug deep enough they would have found being an enlisted member of the armed services one of the top jobs when they consider structure, pay, benifits, retirement, job satisfaction, training and education.

Personally, I love my job. I literally play with explosives and guns. I get paid to work out and stay healthy. It makes me wonder who exactly they surveyed, and how sad is their little life.

Any poll is easily manipulated to get the desired results. Sometimes, a person's values and pinions come out in the question design even without intentionally doing so. I don't need a list to determine my self worth and happiness. Not one of us joined the military to get rich. Even on my worst day I loved being in the military. If civilians knew what we endured and were capable of, there would be no veteran unemployment.

Any job that pays less than 1/3 minimum wage where you risk your life can't be that good. Then again, how many of us joined to be rich? I had a degree going in and was offered to go to OCS during my first deployment but turned it down. I wanted to stay hands on. That was worth more than officer pay.

Not sure how they derived that. I would imagine it's not as attractive as it once was due to the # of deployments during the past few years but 198 out of 200?

Some of my best service years was when I was enlisted.

Money - with the check my wife drew we made about $187.00 per month (1967) when I was an E-3. We scraped by but were happy and had very little debt. Of course, money isn't what motivates most of us. The three things that kept me in the Air Forcer were:
1. Military retirement
2. Paid education
3. Medical benefits

Probably a result of who have never been in the Military not valuing selfless service or service to one's Country!
