Seriously! Um, (speechless). If you gotta go, you gotta go. Frequency, over frequency, abuse can be managed on a case by case basis, which I am sure our professional teacher corps can manage just fine. If the child has no medical problem like IBS/IBD then no but if they have bowel disease their life is a living HELL! I ran a support group for Crohn's/Colitis and all bowel diseases and came across teachers who would not give these kids all the time they wanted.

I explained the disease and the effect it has on self-esteem. During one group an extremely beautiful girl (18) said she was in terror going over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge for fear of an accident of that nature. Imagine any teen or preteen going through that and having an accident. I came down hard on the resistant teachers and the ones who helped these kids were a godsend of sorts. I do not tolerate misbehavior to those who are terribly ill like that. Teachers need to handle it on a case by case basis. No one can say how much any of us need to use the bathroom on a daily basis. He comes back from recess and tells his teacher he needs to go to the bathroom. She says, no, you should have gone during recess. He NEEDS to go, but he is trying to be a good obedient kid. So, he ends up pooping in his pants. He was embarrassed, demoralized, crying, and, well, pooped on. My daughter was furious. I said, you go get 'em girl. She let the teacher have it. She scheduled a meeting with the principal and let the principal have it. I would have gone if she didn't. If I child says, I gotta go, then let them go.
