Fort Rich is awesome! The cold is manageable (especially with the extra clothing that you get issued), and you're 10 minutes from downtown Anchorage. Lots to do off duty: snowboard, snowmobiling, ski, hunt, fish, etc. Plus there's some awesome food joints scattered all around Anchorage. I miss my 3 years there... had a great time!
