Illegal is illegal, and if someone is currently breaking the law, how can they meet the moral threshold for enlistment in AR 601-210 Chapter 2? IF we are going to ignore those who break this law, what other criminal activities are we going to ignore…as we draw down?

Maybe serving in the US Military, at a reduced "prove you worth" paygrade. should be a requirement for citizenship! If they are willing to fight for this country, they should be allowed citizenship. If not, they should be treated as an illegal, the same as in other countries like Mexico! Basic life support only! No TV, No unnecessary health care, No bull shit!

If we are going to RIF 30,000 American Soldiers who fought valiantly for this country, then why should we make room for those who did not follow our laws? People say we are against immigration, that is not true, I am against illegal immigration. The president swore to uphold the constitution, he has not done that. Come here legally, we will welcome you, otherwise, go home...Try to get into Mexico without proper paperwork, tell me how that works out for you!

CW2 Ernest Krutzsch, well said. I am definitively not against people coming to this country but I want them to do it properly and legally. Many others did it so why can't the illegals do it. It makes no sense.

Sorry but I have to heavily disagree with this. Illegals are here ILLEGALLYZ, which means they broke the law to cut in line to get here. I have ZERO issue with anyone coming to the U.S., or any other country for that matter, but do so properly. My parents immigrated here in the late 60s. They did so LEGALLY. My dad even served in the military. My younger sister, brother and I are all first generation Americans in our family. I can't speak for my siblings but I am eternally grateful to have been born here, which is why I have given back my life in service to the country. Rewarding illegals is NOT the answer. It breeds contempt for the rule of law and further opens up the Pandora's Box. It also totally insults the service of all who died to protect this country.

... and going through the proper channels includes not circumventing INS to get here.

We are a nation that respects the rule of law and if they can't respect our laws, they don't need to come. PERIOD. And those that are here without documentation need to go home and get it the right way.

Every one of the illegals our bleeding heart softies want to help comes from a country that doesn't reciprocate our generous immigration policy. Take the case of Sgt Tahmooressi, for example. Can you name one country in Latin America that subsidizes illegal immigrants?!! NO, because they are is a burden to taxpayers! I'd just as soon see them take their burden elsewhere or at least compensate us for our troubles by breaking big rocks into smaller ones until such time as they have earned their bus ticket home.

If we were to make the rules such that illegal immigrants must go home immediately and forfeit their right to apply for U.S. citizenship, that would make them think twice about coming... If they blow it, they'll never have a chance to do it the right way. Am sorry about the children but unless you send them home there is still an incentive for the parents to come illegally so that their children can benefit. Not buying any sob stories. They NEED to fix things in the countries they come from rather than coming here expecting a "permiso" to be given to them. For what?

If they aren't willing to fight for their freedom there, why would they fight for it here? Could they truly be trusted?

-- edited to correct "foreign policy" to "immigration policy".

I have to somewhat agree with Capt Schwager's comment. Illegal is illegal. two wrongs is still not going to make a right and however your intentions are, you still need to make amends for your transgression to start with a clean slate. Go back to your home country, acquire proper documentation and wait in line with other law abiding immigrants who wish to enter this country for all the right reasons. While some feel the Indians were the native people of this country, they too immigrated from the Asian land mass hundreds of years ago, so we are truly a country of immigrants, but we are now a nation of laws, and those laws should be obeyed and if they are bad, changed. Justice would not be served to pick and choose who and what laws we enforce and those we exempt. This should go for all both citizens and non-citizens, politicians, law enforcement, all races and religions. Justice is suppose to be blind in administering the law and until it truly is, we will never be a nation of equals!
