Is it possible to join the Army with previous health issues (cancer)?

Question. I have a friend who wants to join the Army. However In the past shes had cancer about 9 years ago. She’s cancer free now. Would it be possible for her to join?

SSG Private RallyPoint Member, Lt Col Jim Coe is correct. You'll have to ask a recruiter.

The likely situation is that the condition will be noted and will require a waiver to enlist.

However, don't take any of our advice on it - she'll have to talk to the recruiter and see what is possible.

This will depend on the type of cancer. Searching the DoDI 6130.03 with just the term "cancer" gave only a few results for specific types. Using "malignancy," "malignant," and other key words showed other results. The best advice for your friend is to seek out a Recruiter. A waiver will more than likely have to be submitted.
