Reenlistment? question below ?

I’m a Army Reservist Veteran 92y trying to re-enlist as 12P. I went to Virginia college for Electrical Technician certification but I couldn’t finish because the school shutdown due to losing accreditation. I ETS from the Army reserves in Aug 2017 after I extended 6 months to try to pass my PT test but was unsuccessful. I never received a new DD-214 I was told the Army reserves do not get this upon ETS so I do not know my RE code. Last May I was charged with a DWI I have finished my ASAP class and have paid my court fees and fines. I’m just waiting on my probation to be up in May and pay my reinstatement fee and insurance fees to get my license back. I really want to get back in the Army as an Active Soldier and complete 20 years or more and retire honorably. I talked to a recruiter and career counselor and they both told me I have to wait until probation is up to see if I’m eligible. I just need guidance on what I can do to get back in? Any ideas?

Private First Class, I admire you. I would suggest you keep your proverbial nose clean; and try volunteering, going back to school, working: anything you can- to get back into the Army. Your goal is a great one! PFC Rayshad Washington

Seems like you did what you can. The recruiters will have the best up to date information. Keep it of trouble and keep up your PT.

This will be a long road for you, if it is even possible. You must clear all of the hurdles associated with the private sector. Once you have completed all court directed requirements you can then visit the recruiting office heading down a path of waivers associated with your request. You then face the needs of the Army challenge, meaning you will compete for slots with civilians and prior service who do not have records nor codes to contend with. It is not impossible, but it won’t be easy, if it happens. Have a backup plan for life.

This group, NOVA, does VA disability cases, we used them for my whole total perm disability thing after starting with a vet group...I know youre not doing a VA disability thing, however, their guys are all hooked into whole a lot of mil.vet stuff, they can be quite handy to yak with, at their main ofc, or checking their search engine to see who's near you, we had to pay a $500 consult, I don't know in your case, though if their guys near you domt handle such cases, they might know who would...VA also has the Discharge Review Board (DRB), which has traveling teams like the Board of Veteran Appeals (BVA) our NOVA guy got us into see a judge for, DRB stuff def nds an attorney, that's def not amateur night, trust me on thatz look up DRB, I don't know if it'd be applicable in your case, obv, however, I just figured if you didn't know about it or NOVA, such stuff might at least possibly be of use, you know? I'd be most eager for your thoughts, no rush, if you'd ever care to chat whenever convenient, hope is of some use, of course....

And how many credits did you finish for the electrical tech certification before the school shut down? Did you get a transcript? Can you? Would the credits on the transcript still be any good? Could you transfer to another school? Have you tried at all thus far? Try to get a copy of your mil educ transcript also from either DANTES or the Amer Council on Educ (ACE), it could only help you to have it, for any mil coursework credits you'd be allowed, OK? Were you trying to do your associates? Bachelors? If so, what major? How many credits thus far? What were your grades and/or GPAs at the elec tech program, of you can say? Have you also tried adult voc ed programs, typically allowed for adult students at most voc ed high schools (we have them by us)? If you'd want help with various mil accepted online program, state amr private, I can suggest those for you also, if you'd like, as well...look up the college level exm program (CLEP), DANTES also has such a program that might be linked to CLEP, I've never looked into it all that extensively...I'm here if you'd care to chat further, as I'd said, OK?

This was part of NYS govt, then privatized, well known to the svcs, I got a 2nd Bach in !ath thru them, a friend got his Bach in math, then went Navy OCS using it....
