Should daylight saving time be done away with?

Putting clocks forward benefits retailing, sports, and other activities that exploit sunlight after working hours but can cause problems for evening entertainment and for other activities tied to the sun (such as farming) or to darkness (such as fireworks shows).Although some early proponents of DST aimed to reduce evening use of incandescent lighting (formerly a primary use of electricity), modern heating and cooling usage patterns differ greatly, and research about how DST currently affects energy use is limited or contradictory.

Problems sometimes caused by DST clock shifts include: they complicate timekeeping, and can disrupt meetings, travel, billing, record keeping, medical devices, heavy equipment, and sleep patterns. Software can often adjust computer clocks automatically, but this can be limited and error-prone, particularly when various jurisdictions change the dates and timings of DST changes.

I don't really know if we should or shouldn't but I can say with authority that I have always detested the time change! Unless it's fall back, then I get an extra hour to sleep...I like that part.

I do find it especially frustrating because it seems most countries I deploy to do not use the DST system. Therefore, around the beginning of November, I have to recalculate all the time differences when calling family back in the States.

Otherwise, I am unconvinced that dropping it will be a plus. Besides, I like all the trivia questions about the days that either lose an hour of time or gain one.

Europe has does DST. The US is not the only country that does it.

This time forward time back is confusing!

Just last night I thought it was time for my husband in Europe to wake up for pt. Little did I know I was calling him an hr before he needed to wake up cause of this Daylight savings time.

I think daylight savings time makes as much sense as trying to cover up with a short blanket, cutting off a portion of the bottom, sew it to the top, so you have more blanket.

Arizona and Hawaii do ijust fine without it. Why not do away with it all together? Stupid tradition :-(

DST was designed around agricultural industries, to extend the "day light" during normal work hours. Keeping this in mind DST helps to reduce the need for shifting work hours to compensate for the natural change in natural daylight throughout the year.

I think we could get by without DST with the global technelogical climate we live in today. We have a much different view of time than was the norm when DST was implemented.

Some changes are a good thing!!
