I was considering quite seriously moving to Warrant Officer until a friend (also an enlisted 12Y) almost talked me out of it saying if you don't make CW4 prior to retirement (or being forced out) you retire as the rank you came into Warrant as. Should I stay enlisted or keep pursuing Warrant? Ask any warrant officer, this doesn't sound legit.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 17 at 2017 5:40 PM2017-08-17T17:40:04-04:002017-08-17T17:40:04-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member3287542<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Your friend is an idiotResponse by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 24 at 2018 2:01 AM2018-01-24T02:01:57-05:002018-01-24T02:01:57-05:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member3287543<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>You retire at the rank you are when you leave the force.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 24 at 2018 2:02 AM2018-01-24T02:02:49-05:002018-01-24T02:02:49-05:00SPC Gary Dietz II3287564<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Even though I am no longer active duty and was enlisted, I would strongly suggest talking with someone of greater rank than what you are now or plan on attaining; i.e. CW-whatever. If what was being told on some other responses is, if true, as long as you attained say CW3 and were that for at least 3 years you'd retire as CW3. I'm not sure how long you plan on staying in but you still have 21.5 years remaining should you decide to retire with 30 years - which I would do if you went to the Warrant Officer side of things. Even with WOCS I would think you'd be able to obtain CW4 with no problem given that much time remaining and possibly CW5 and maybe even Command Chief Warrant Officer 5 if you "play the game." - just my thoughts!Response by SPC Gary Dietz II made Jan 24 at 2018 2:45 AM2018-01-24T02:45:28-05:002018-01-24T02:45:28-05:00Laurie Sherman6631439<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>What is your opinion of being a MOS12 Y geospatial engineer.
