Should I wear my ASU to my daughter's high school graduation?

My daughter really wants me to wear my dress uniform to her high school graduation. I think it's a little weird, but not against reg's, what are your thoughts?

Your daughter is proud of you! I would be thrilled if my daughter asks me to wear mine. These little favors create lifelong memories for your daughter, and there will be less and less opportunity as she goes to college and moves on.

I think it detracts from the attention that she would get on her big day, but if that's really what she wants, then I'd wear them to make her happy. Congratulations (in advance) on her graduation.

This would be a great chance for you to show a positive image of a Soldier supporting and being proud of their Family. Without our Families, we can't do what we do every day in the military. A few thoughts:
- Nothing in regulation that I am aware of that forbids wearing ASUs to a civilian event (other than political events).
- The best advertisement for the Army is our currently serving members.
- Your daughter has asked you to wear your uniform.
- Based upon above, wear your ASU.

I personally would not - the day is about the graduates, not you. Uniforms draw a lot of attention.
Having said that, you have done a few things right if your daughter is that proud of her daddy.

You helped get her through High School (and through Life) by (I hopefully assume) proudly wearing that uniform. If my daughters asked me to wear mine, I'd do it. She's proud of your profession, things you have done, and to everyone know you are her father. Just watch the pride in her walking alongside you and surely this would be a memorable time for the both of you. Unfortunately for me, I'd be retired when my girls walk across the stage. Don't you even dare think you are not justified in wearing your ASU to your daughter's graduation. You were given that uniform to wear it. The Army expects you to wear it for appropriate military functions, AND wants you to wear it for equally important civilian events. What a great opportunity to make your daughter as proud of you as you are of her.

I wouldn't say I would wear a Tutu, but my Dress Greens shrank away many years ago until they only fit in my old footlocker. If your daughter wants it to hell with anyone else's opinion.

I would wear them, she s very proud of you and what you have done. My son asked me to wear my dress greens to his basic graduation. He then proudly introduced to his Drill Instructors who had to salute me. He got a kick out of that!

Why not? its a special occasion and there is nothing in AR 670-1 that says that you cant and your doing it to honor her besides you'd wear them when she gets married right so this just as appropriate.

Normally, my answer would be no, because wearing your bling tends to detract from the person upon whom the focus should be centered. But if she - the person being honored - has requested it, then I think it is OK.

I would, however, caution, that your daughter is (presumedly) not the ONLY person being honored. For that reason, I would probably wear full "Class A" uniform while escorting her (i.e. before and after the ceremony), but drop the coat and downgrade to Class Bs when sitting in the bleachers.
