Should POTUS base Leadership Decisions on Checking the Political Box or Make Tough Unpopular Decisions When Needed?

What are your thought's and opinion's RP Members?

We've seen a number of high leadership decisions throughout history made by past and present POTUS' that really were about checking a political agenda or box for their memoires for a future book to sell.

Isn't it about time we start demanding as a people, as a country, and as a society that we get and elect a POTUS that isn't worried about popularity, but about making the tough decisions that aren't going to be popular in the beginning, but result in 2nd and 3rd Order Affects that will benefit us ALL as a country?

I couldn't agree with you more sir. The President SHOULD be appointing the best people for the various positions (SECSTATE, SECDEF, etc.) and listening to the advice of the JCS and make decisions based on that. NOT what the POTUS thinks will give them more "cool points!"

COL Mikel J. Burroughs POTHUS, should use President Ronald Reagan as an example, he went against the grain against the cold war and as a result look at Europe nowadays with democracy growing. He was for the American people of the people. I like his Soldiers Pledge speech it summons up what the meaning of "too much is given, much is required".

In the position of POTUS, you should be neither Democrat or Republican - you should be an AMERICAN FIRST! You should no longer be affiliated with a party. Too many presidents have worried too much about pleasing a party and toeing the party line and not enough time thinking what's best for WE THE PEOPLE. Case in point - Obama care. If it was truly meant to help the American people, then they (we the people) would have been able to keep the insurance they had, the doctors they had and providing a path of coverage to those who didn't have it. Yet all one needs to do is "follow the money" to find out who's making a bundle from it. We know it wasn't done the correct way with no concern for the working class people. Just look at how many insurance exchanges who have or are on the verge of failure.

There's a reason he can't be "recalled" in a tradional sense. He's there to make tough and SINGULAR decisions.

We the People have the government we deserve. However the President chooses to make decisions remember, we elected him. Hell, we reelected him after seeing how he makes decisions. Don't like it? Don't choose another like him. Yes, it's really that simple. What? You didn't vote for him? Too bad. It was a group decision. Did you do all you could do to sway the group in it choice? Did you even vote? Did you withhold your vote from the "other candidate" because there was something you didn't like, a single issue that dissuaded you even though you liked everything else about him? I refer you to my first sentence: We the People have the government we deserve.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Sir, I could not agree more. We need a strong leader who is not making decision(s) based in a political vacuum or on political promises. We need a true leader who puts the country before his own needs as far as recognition (Nobel Peace Prize, memoires, etc). We need a person who is bi-partisan, but true to the country and listens to the values and messages of the majority of the people. Great question, sir. Thank you for asking it.

Absolutely should be for the good of the country. We don't elect a president of the Democratic or Republican party, but of the entire United States. Likewise we don't elect a president to create the Conservative of Liberal States of America, but rather the UNITED States.

Most of all, I want a president who will do what is right, work with both parties and not erode the first (most important) amendment of the constitution.

the president should uphold the constitution first....not step all over it like our current one....it is what he swore he would do when he swore into office...so he lied right from day one. The Constitution and the American people should be the presidents only agenda....not partisan politics, not Chinas green footprint, not isolating our allies.
This pres has an agenda and its not the Constitution or the American people and i have been counting down the days till he is gone.
