Should RallyPoint Admin change tags on posts or leave them as intended by the poster?

I've had multiple posts where an Admin has gone in and changed the tags to reflect what they thought the intent of the post should be. Does this help the community by better focusing questions or is hurting by not allowing members to reach the appropriate audiences.

We are not changing them to reflect what we think " the intent of the post should be" We are changing them so the thread meets the intent of the rules users agreed to when they signed up.

Tags are changed, as SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" pointed out to maintain the standards set forth for the community. My recommendation to you CW2 Private RallyPoint Member is when you get the notice that tags have been changed and you feel your intent has been reduced, then reach out to the admin that changed the tags directly. We are more than willing to explain why the change was made and work with you to ensure your intent is not lost.

CW2 Private RallyPoint Member A wise mentor I once had recommended learning how the platoon works before trying to change things. He recommended a self-imposed 3 month learning period. I've found his recommendation helpful in many applications.

I can understand the reason to change them, but I also understand the reason that some people want to hit a specific audience. And when tags are changed it takes away from the original intent of the posters purpose.
So unless the person truly doesn't know jack about tagging and is just throwing out random crap of course correct the case, but when someone Blatently does know what they are doing at least be courteous and message that person and ask their intent or explain why you changed the tag.
It's just a respect thing sometimes.

Don't take everything to personal.

Sometimes it's just miscommunication.

CW2 Private RallyPoint Member if you saw some of the tags the admin modify on a daily basis, you'd understand why this task is important. As admin, it is our responsibility to ensure questions and posted links get shared only with their perspective groups. If I am asking a question only pertinent to the Navy, I may tag "Sailors", but there is very little reason for me to tag "Leadership, Politics, RallyPoint, and Humor". Those are the most commonly used tags because they have the largest community out-reach. We see these tags often times on posts seeking attention, instead of answers.

Admins try to ensure that the site is run in the way that the owners intended it, not for the intention of the individual members.

Let me come at this differently. I am not an admin. I spend an inordinate amount of time helping people that frankly don’t know the terminology and if you don’t know the terminology you can get straight answers. Part of that is tagging the post to flag down people who know so they can help. I let people know often that they should change the tags, and make recommendations. Also little known fact that one can clink on tags and find more info on the topic. I see people tagging Marine Corps and Air Force tags for Army specific issues. Flailing in the dark IMHO, which makes it more relevant to get help, getting help.

I briefly had a facebook account, the first day I was reprimanded and put in time out. I made a comment about the corona virus and a good bourbon might be the cure. I thought this was pretty funny (in my mind anyway) and maybe this facebook thing is not for me. So I deactivated my account

Who cares. Nobody searches for subjects to see if their question has been previously asked. They just are the same old question over and over and over again. Ditch the tags.
