Since quitting the reserves isn't a discharge per se, and an equivalent service total could be earned before transfer to the fleet reserve or equivalent, you shouldn't have to wait until you're 60. It's doable but has to be laid out correctly. CAPT Kevin B. Why would we cause a larger rip between the Active Duty side and the Reserve side of the departments by saying they do not deserve this after serving? The whole point of the preference is that active duty members will have no job experience to stand out due to being full time military. Reservists can have a job and can build that resume up with experience in the private sector therefore they do not need to receive a preference for federal hiring Cpl Abraham Sweet Mon, 31 Aug 2015 17:12:21 -0400 2015-08-31T17:12:21-04:00 Response by SrA Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 31 at 2015 6:25 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/should-reservist-and-former-reservist-receive-veterans-preference-for-federal-employment?n=930882&urlhash=930882 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Definitely. Regardless of how you served, you still served. Should active duty veteran receive a higher preference than a reservist if they both have the same amount of years served, sure. But yes they definitely still deserve a preference, they read the same oath, deploy, etc. SrA Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 31 Aug 2015 18:25:36 -0400 2015-08-31T18:25:36-04:00 Response by PO1 Glenn Boucher made Sep 2 at 2015 3:59 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/should-reservist-and-former-reservist-receive-veterans-preference-for-federal-employment?n=935568&urlhash=935568 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I thought that they already do as long as they have an honorable discharge. We go through the same basic training and are ready to activate if called. We must follow the same regulations while on weekend training and also our annual two week deployments. We should be allowed to get discounts at participating stores and have our drivers license marked veteran.
