We have gone a long way as per what these Stripes can do and are capable off. All the way as far as American Revolution where "little standardization of NCO duties or responsibilities existed". (A Short History of The Noncommisioned Officer, by L.R. Arms)
Written in 1974 wasn't it? and to this day (integrity check), we still have a few not understanding or even try to abide by this creed. Hell, we loosing a lot of traditions to. NCO Induction, residing the NCO Creed and NCO Oath when first pinned... eh, first Velcro-ed. I think as little it may look and maybe from different era, it still applies with no changes. It has a larger representation of our duties and responsibilities not just because a "ranking enlisted" but because we are the ones with the experience, continuity, the guidance and of course, leadership. For every officer that has served, they can not say they did not have a NCO that influence and provided guidance and even some mentorship at one point of their career. Our job as Noncommissioned Officers is greater; and maybe getting cocky here, than any other rank in all branches. We have been there and done that.
Now saying this, I have seen slack on the mentoring. Not on everybody but its happening.
Example: What ever happened to those young SGTs calling their Soldiers 30-45 min prior to formation making sure they are on their way for PT?, or the ones that Monday Morning they where at the barracks 30 min before formation. << great way to conduct barracks check, ensure Soldiers are on time to formation, time to react if Soldier is missing, and on.. As I have seen, most Juniors think "they are grown A$% men/women, I don't need to do such. How true is that that statement, I remember being a Private... Single, At Barracks, no other responsibilities, etc. << NCO Creed applies to the basics [All Soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my Soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own]
how can I put this, "brah, do you even know how Leaders Book is used?"
