This Is Why You Joined the Army

Is thier a moment in your career when you thought, "This is why I joined the Army."

I know for me is was on combat patrols, and setting up security for blackhawk supply drops. In those moments I thought, when I joined the Army this is what I was expecting.

My second deployment, I met a little local girl, I saw her everyday while at an OP and one day she said to me, that she hopes to be like me one day. Even with all of the chaos around her this little 5 year old had hope because we were there. To see hope in a total stranger...that is when I had my This is why I joined moment.

Well, after one deployment while active and 3 in the National guard to overseas locations, 1 Blizzard, a mountain wild fire and the tornado. Also the Govenors Marijuana Task force all in but 1 in KY National guard. It would have to the service to my Country, Community and my Family. The humanitarian service is always the reason that gets me out of the bed in the mornings. While deployed to Desert Storm I saw an appox. 5 yrs old little boy holding his sisters hand. They took a box of MRE's and was running away as the Blackhawks where landing. He was wearing a sand bag that had blown away from some soldier or possition as clothing. That made my heart drop and said to myself I'll do my part till I can physically do it no more. Well out of a 11 yr break in service and 15 yrs of service later I'm still here.
