Even when there were ashtrays, some smokers would flick them out the window. For those who didn't flick their butts out the window, never fear, they'd dump the full ash tray and it would fly everywhere. Guess they thought it was safe but could care less about the mess. You can tell the cause from the scorch marks. As SGT Pesz said, you can buy an ashtray that fits in the cup holder. I wish more folks would use them! I have never smoked, but grew up in a household full of smokers - which led to me hating to be around it. I have no issue with people who choose to smoke, as it's the right - but stop the madness with the littering. Last I remember Kansas would do farm field. I remember driving north on I-35 and there were warning signs to tell people to slow down when entering smoke. Lightning could have caused it also. To answer your question I usually use a can. My state catches on fire like this every year.
