At the other end was the chaplains offices and small chapel. We "groundhogs" got pretty tight. They'd do a special service on Groundhog Day to remember the Four Chaplains. Pretty much only the groundhogs (logistics too) showed up. Our holy rollers included a O6 Catholic and O5 Methodist and Rabbi. They were prime examples of respect for each other's religion and service to all. It was easy to see why the special service held was a no brainer to them. The sermon aspect was you didn't have to be a chaplain to be of service to all. Since then, I never saw or heard of this service. However, a bunch of the time, there were no chaplains around so I'd presume it'd go off somewhere else.
As an aside, we collectively rebelled at the notion of wearing name tags for the Navy Ball. Word was, we had to. So we swapped name tags. I became Rabbi Ball. It got hilarious as people would look at my sleeve trying to figure out what a Rabbi's emblem was. I merely stated the CEC emblem was the burning bush and they went with it. Medical types would believe anything. And Father Cohill? He was a supply officer. Unfortunately his Christian Cross device was just to much to explain away as a dagger, telephone pole, etc. He did try..... CAPT Kevin B.
