TPU to AGR Recruiting Duty?

I'm currently a TPU soldier and 41 YOA (E6). My TIS is a little over 9 years. My question is regarding AGR Recruiting status. How many of you went from TPU to AGR recruiter and got somewhere within reason to your requested assignments? If not where did you live and where did you get put? I'm only curious.

I understand it is the needs of the army and I hold no complaints, but I've spoken to a few people in person and they have all got their requests. I'm curious if this was a fluke or not. I appreciate some feedback.

To those who are AGR Recruiters. How do you like it? I got a buddy of mine in near OK and he loves it.

If you are interested in AGR recruiting without having to move too far, you could also consider talking to the Guard in your state about transitioning to the Guard for AGR recruiter.

I can’t provide much detail to your question, but I am a former TPU on AGR. I go to recruiter school on the 10th of August. I can keep you posted if interested.

I was an AGR Recruiter from 2016-2019. They asked me for my 3 top states (yes I am AGR reserve). I chose maryland, West Virginia, and South Carolina. My choices ended up being Pennsylvania and Tennessee. I ended up choosing the location in Pa, because it was 3 hours from where my wifes family is. They put you where you will succeed, not exactly where you want to be. I also have a fellow AGR recruiter who asked for a location, and was put in that city. Hope this helps.

Most 74V on AGR USAR has good things to say about it and most got stationed from their wish list. But they also said to call those stations and ask about the command. I myself was looking at retirement but was asked to put in a packet for either a 74R or 74V due to my extensive background and the amount of recruiting I have done when I was a DARNS. Undecided so if anyone has the good/bad of those AGR jobs I am all ears.

I've been on recruiting for coming up on two years. I want to say most of the folks I went to the ARC with were able to get something at least close to their requested assignments. I was fortunate enough to get the exact station I wanted. I'd put in my AGR packet and after 8 months with no response, I'd given up on it. When I was finally contacted by HRC, I'd just closed and moved into a new house, and my wife was 4 months pregnant. It's difficult getting any information prior to accepting the AGR appointment, but we took the leap hoping the Army would take care of us. A few weeks before you graduate from the ARC you'll meet with the representatives from HRC and they'll go over assignments. I explained my situation to them, and they put me in the local station 10 minutes from my house. To be clear, I wouldn't guarantee you're that fortunate, and I would plan as though you'll be moving. It makes sense though to take care of newly assigned AGR soldiers on their first tour. Good luck! if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

I went AGR in 2002 and retired in 2014. I got lucky in all respects, I was selected as an AMEDD Recruiter. I was actually stationed in my home state by luck, and stayed in the same station from 2002 to 2011. I had wanted to stay and retire at this station when I turned 60 (I was brought on recruiting at 48 and reported just days shy of my 49th birthday). DA decided that I could stay till I was 62 and had me set up to PCS 90 days prior to turning 60, told me to PCS or get out in 30 days. I had no choice but to go. Was sent to New Windsor NY, had a great last three years and was ETS’d back to the same town I had been stationed in before. This was the tail end of the Toxic Leadership era that was going on in recruiting. Had a few bumpy days, but overall I loved telling my Army Story. I didn’t hold any punches, told my applicants the straight scoop, and was there for them during their decisions regarding their Army Officer Career. I’d do it all over again providing Medical Professionals to care for “My Soldiers”.

What you have to do you want a job you got a politic for it. I got my requested assignment the first time the second time it was the need of the army but you know you compromise. So no it's not a fluke that can happen but I went to the unit and spoke with the commander and then to the battalion and talked with the sergeant major of the battalion that I wanted to be in. I sold myself to the commander and I got my first assignment. Love recruiting duty I was a very successful AGR recruiter and proud to say that I was. It's a very demanding job and you work a lot of hours. You spend a lot of time doing training, training Deps you lose a lot of sleep but the job is very rewarding. I personally loved it.
