Veterans Day 2014, where will you go for the grub?

Well if I can get out of the local Ft. Bragg area then I wouldn't mind going to one of the places that will serve free meals to veterans. The only problem that I face every year is the amount of people that go. Areas that have more locations of participants is better than the local small military towns that we are normally stationed in.

While I deeply appreciate the offers provided by various businesses, and I'm happy to see that so many are participating, I don't generally partake. I prefer to stay with family and avoid the crowds.

I'll probably eat at home, maybe grill a steak like SFC William Swartz Jr mentioned. I don't know this for sure but I don't believe there's a restaurant in my small town that offers anything for veterans on Veteran's Day.

I'm hoping to be on the National Mall in DC with a picnic basket and drinks listening to Zac Brown Band, Bruce Springsteen, and others for the Concert for Valor who knows maybe snuggled up to someone awesome. ;-)

In my personal opinion I would rather see those free meals for veterans go to those who don't have a lot so they can get the free meal.

I started a tradition a few years ago buying books and donating at the VA hospital. If the hospital allows this year, I'll buy a few pizzas, also.

I have to see when I have time to go and eat. I have to cook the S.O.S breakfast at my VFW post from 0500-1100 from 1200-1300 post colors at city hall, and from 1400-1600 post colors at another VFW post than I have school from 1830-2300.

This is my personal opinion and applies only to me and myself: I always feel like a d-bag when I even think about exercising privilege on Veterans Day. Everyone else's mileage may vary but I just feel wrong. Again, that's personally speaking. I cast no aspersions on anyone else that feels like they should.

I forget if I answered this already.

On my way home from work, I just stopped at my favourite watering hole, Johnny MacCracken's Celtic Firehouse Pub in Marietta Square GA. They blast punk rock and they have the beer of my people (Belhaven) on tap. I ordered myself some tatties and neeps and something called the Sausage Fest, which I felt very silly ordering.

I asked the bartender for permission, then I ordered a bottle of beer and left it on the bar with a note for it to be left all night, and it said "To US Military Veterans, Thank You."

the wife and i did dinner and a movie. we ate at "red robin" and watched "fury" at regal cinemas. did some shopping at bed, bath, and beyond too. turned out to be a great day.
