Meaning there must be an open requirement for you to be slotted.

Your best bet is to consult with your retention NCO to the earliest possible and see what can be worked out. Also, a call to your career manager won’t hurt. Keep in mind, at the end of the day Army needs will prevail. Depending on your reasoning you may qualify for a compassionate reassignment. Thank you for your service. You won't get Keller, but you can get Fort Drum. Give it a shot and request it once, but just expect it to come back denied and then you can reenlist for Drum. As to why you won't get Keller, that's a long discussion with your Branch Manager, but let's just say those very limited (and diminishing) spots are being saved for other medics.
